No need to kick a man when he's down.

You act like he was destroyed by some bum last night. He was beaten by a very solid champ that most underrated with a style that would always give Miguel problems.

Anyway, yes Cotto is overrated by the average fanatic, but which fighter isn't?

I've never called Cotto an ATG, an unbeatable machine, or anything like that. And neither have any of the Rican posters I respect either.

Cotto is, and always has been, a very good fighter that never quite made it to greatness.

And there's nothin wrong with that. He never ducked anybody & gave it his all in every loss.

Nothing more you could ask of him.

I guess its fair to say that he was overrated in the early days. Now we all know what Cotto is. He's a B+ fighter. People get "overrated" confused with "celebrated" and "well respected". People will root for Cotto like they did Trinidad, Hatton and Dlh. Win, lose, or draw. TS I'd like to know your definition of bum. Chop Chop is no bum. Neither was Torres, Bailey, Mosley, or even Clottey. It aint the best res in the world but they are ok wins especially at the time they took place. If you're throwing bum around I hope you can box yourself.

I always felt among Puerto Rican greats he was a bit overrated. Some people actually put him top 5 among PR legends. I am not sure if he makes top 10. Is he better than Escobar, Montanez, Torres, Ortiz, Rosario, Benitez, Gomez, Camacho, Trinidad, Vasquez Sr.?, that is 10 already.

This also leaves out Laporte, who i felt was more skilled and durable. Laporte was really never knocked out despite getting in the ring with killers as Wilfredo Gomez, Azumah Nelson, Chavez, S. Sanchez, and Kostya Tszyu.
He gave guys like Chavez and Sanchez tough fights. Some analysts as Ted Sares thought he beat Chavez, while two of scorecards seperated them by only one point. Bob Sheridan who was at the fight thought it was a draw.

Laporte was robbed against Pedroza who should have been disqualifed due to repeated low blows which weakened him in the last rounds. He beat Castillo, Lockridge, and Miranda.

Don't get me wrong, I still think Cotto is a great champion and did get in the ring with some ATG's, but i think the lop-sided loss to Trout removes any chance at the IBHOF.

i agree that he is a very good fighter and to call him over rated after a loss is typical of certain fans. i dont think he is a HOF fighter tho. guys like pacquiao, mayweather, morales barrera etc are HOF imo. cotto should be commended for taking the margarito fight when no other fcuker wanted to fight him tho.

he dropped a bollock going to 154 tho. should have stayed at 147.
