I don't know about that..Hatton was a beast before he stated getting knockout on a consistent basis...Hatton would have been hell for Cotto in his prime at 140lb...

he dropped a bollock going to 154 tho. should have stayed at 147.
I agree he should have stayed at 147lb..But dude in this era Cotto is a HOF imo(and I know we all have um),he has consistently fought the best(although he does not always win)although he has had some gimmies..But that's really all you can ask for from a fighter tbh...

he has fought some good fighters no doubt, but i think to be considered for the HOF, you should have to do more than just fight the best, you have to beat them!

he is a 3 weight world champion but i dont think he was ever number 1 in his division. he also only took the title of 1 guy, and that wasnt against that good of a fighter.

At 140 cotto was decent but overrated, he got wobbled by bums multiple times, and never took on any real killers.

Up to 147, gets smashed to bits by Margarito and quits. Gets past old Shane mosley in probably his best win, fights various other no marks.

Takes on pac, gets demolished, runs the whole second half of the fight but gets praised for showing "heart"

Fights a one legged rabi, wins and is suddenly an atg

Gets "revenge" over the re animated corpse of Margarito. Does not look impressive

Loses at least 9 rounds to faded floyd, cotto fans call it a "close fight"

Takes on young, hungry Austin Trout and loses in a landslide.

Cotto has always been B level
That's about a good a goddamn post that you could make about Cotto. He's basically boxing's charity case in that he gets credit for losing fights. But when he's all Puerto Rico has to offer, of course his fans will always make excuses for all his failures.

I rate him as a c+/b level fighter. No heart, bad gas tank, can't take punches and mentally checks out as soon as he's in w/ someone not handpicked by Arum to make him look "destructive".

Best fight is probably an old shot Mosley which went to the wire. I had him losing to Clottey and he needed to hit Judah in the balls 2x just to make it out of the first 4 rounds.

I'm hoping they make the Canelo fight anyway, simply because I enjoy seeing Cotto get beat to a pulp.

Honestly, he has declined since that Margarito fight significantly in my book. He does not have that same speed, relentlessness that he had in the beginning and previous to that fight. He is still competitive with people like Mayweather and yeah he got beat by Trout but guess what look at the size differential? Cotto does NOT belong at 154, dude is hardly 5"7 and he's fighting there. Khan/Garcia are like 5"10/11 with a good amount of muscle and fighting at 140. Cotto looks kinda chubby at 154 and with someone like a Mike Dolce he could get down to 147 healthily. He just refuses to diet properly.

I am a HUGE Miguel Cotto fan but with the fights he has had, his style is not suited to fight well over 30. Mayweather has been successful for this long because he hasn't taken much punishment due to his awesome defence. He should fight Canelo, make a huge payday and win or lose ride out in the sunset. He has made millions and millions of $$ in Boxing and should relax for a while and think about the next phase of his life. I doubt that will happen though...

Good post^^^I have been a Cotto fan since his pro debut and have really enoyed watching him climb the ranks until Margo beat him. He was never the same after that. I don't like his attitude lately when he loses, and I'm sick of defending him when he runs away from Pac.

Tbo, I'm very dissapointed in him right now. The Cotto that fought Floyd would have KO'd the Trout that fought Rodriguez by mid-late rounds.
No more favorite boxers for me. I'm just a boxing fan now. but Cotto will always be special to me having watched him kill everybody up until the Margo fight.

This also leaves out Laporte, who i felt was more skilled and durable. Laporte was really never knocked out despite getting in the ring with killers as Wilfredo Gomez, Azumah Nelson, Chavez, S. Sanchez, and Kostya Tszyu.
He gave guys like Chavez and Sanchez tough fights. Some analysts as Ted Sares thought he beat Chavez, while two of scorecards seperated them by only one point. Bob Sheridan who was at the fight thought it was a draw.

Laporte was robbed against Pedroza who should have been disqualifed due to repeated low blows which weakened him in the last rounds. He beat Castillo, Lockridge, and Miranda.

Don't get me wrong, I still think Cotto is a great champion and did get in the ring with some ATG's, but i think the lop-sided loss to Trout removes any chance at the IBHOF.
Trinidad was and is extremely overrated. Camacho changed the entertainment aspect of boxing but as a fighter he does drown Cotto. Benitez was very good and very polished as a boxer but he's "the other guy" from his era. Those are just the guys Ive studied thoroughly. Yall make it sound like Cotto should be serving drinks at the HOF ceremony rather than being honored as he should and probably will.

Cotto is not going anywhere..But if he was smart he'd move back to 147lb...154lb is too much for him imo...

Cotto performed well at 140, 147, and 154. Where he ranks all time is debatable but I certainly have to put him above Ricky Hatton.
