Calzaghe was a quality fighter. People don't like to recognize this because of his amateur looking style and awkward social manner.
He is not everybodys ideal champion but there is no denying he always found a way to win. He is the type of guy who will always make a fight competitive against a c level fighter or an a level fighter because his style was gritty and awkward.
You can see his talent in the Kessler fight who has since proved to be an elite guy. You also have to give credit to him for forcing the Hopkins fight and pinching the W. We all know Hopkins was still an elite fighter. This was also Joe's 1st fight at LHW.

      What are you smoking bro?

Guys like Barry mcguigan made the HOF and he wasn't even the best in his division. Calzaghe like it or not left 168 after being the man alone at the top.

Calzaghe, in fact, did something even weight jumpers like Floyd once did once and that's clean out a single division. But I shouldn't bring that up because that hurts your chances to bash on Joe for being so average.

frank warren admitted under oath the proposed 2002 calzaghe-hopkins fight would have taken place in wales. why would hopkins go over there? that's like martinez going to russia to fight pirog. actually at least pirog was more known and had been on hbo before unlike calzaghe.

11k posts and you don't understand "forcing the fight"? He didn't let Hopkins hit-and-run. He got dirty with him and imposed his game. Something few guys could ever do to Hop when he was at that level.

No one as far as I can see is calling him the greatest thing since sliced bread, and no one really does. He will be in the HOF and rightfully so, I personally would rate him below Hopkins and Jones and ahead of Toney, I think that is a fair and reasonable assessment.
Yeah, he's a HOF. And below Jones and Toney. What more do people want from him? It's the dummy fans who think he's an ATG or something that are annoying.

Hopkins also had like a 10 minute break in that fight from feigning injury which should neutralize the age advantage some what.

winning belts doesn't matter. resume matters. ward's resume is much better than calzaghes. calzaghe won a vacant belt and defended it for ten years, beat an overhyped jeff lacy for a belt and then won his last 2 belts against kessler. ward beat the reigning wba champ kessler, the reigning wbc and current ibf champ froch and he beat the current wbo champ abraham. ward's beaten every current champ in the division.
