Joe simply doesn't have that good of a resume. How can you have respect for someone who openly admitted he wasn't interested in tough fights like Roy Jones in his day, and who said he's interested in making money instead, not hard fights???

Joe's only notable like wins are Hopkins, Kessler, Lacy, and Bika. Hopkins he arguably lost, Kessler was a very good win, Lacy was a good win at the time, and Bika was a solid win over a Top 10 fighter.

He's not an ATG, no way.

There were lots of barriers, and yes one of them was finding a neutral venue. Others included the weight, as Roy was a LHW, I am sure money would have been an issue also. Jones himself has also openly admitted that Calzaghe was not worth the risk, so it works both ways. I don't think either one of them wanted to go out of their way to make the fight happen, as they were both winning and successful, this does not mean that Calzaghe did not want more competitive fights.

I hate it when idiots like this use little snippets of information to make an idiotic point. IDIOT.
The only time Roy Jones even really acknowledged Calzaghe was in 2003 after he beat Clinton Woods and was contemplating a move to 168. He chose to go to HW instead.

Other than that, the fight was never on the cards.

He had many other good wins over people like Eubank, Mitchell, Brewer, Reid, etc.

Omar Sheika defeated Glen Johnson in his previous fight.

Why is NSB always trying to add to fighters legacies after they retired?
            Calzaghe doesn't get hyped.

Calzaghe gets murderously underrated on here and because of such, people try to debate and make points. Weak resume compared to what? Average-serviceable fighter?

Because that sentence I added sums up ALL his posts.

It's okay to be nationalistic and root for the boxers from your own country.

But it's poor sportsmanship to let your nationalistic feelings lead you to belittle and discredit boxers from other countries.

Underrated? I think he's rated just fine. It's his rabid fans who want to put him on a pedestal he doesn't belong on.

No that's the thing it was never on, I remember Joe doing interviews way back then and saying he would love the fight, but like you said you never felt it was a real possibility. For Jones back then it was all about Michalczewski as they were at the same weight.

The only time I heard Jones address it was before there actual fight, and he was on the round table and basically said that he was always aware of Joe, but it was too much risk for little reward back then.

Rated just fine? Have you read some of the crap on here? This thread is typical of Calzaghe threads. His fans or neutral fans making good points as to why he is one of the greatest SMW of all time, and haters calling him a serviceable fighter, bum, etc.

No one as far as I can see is calling him the greatest thing since sliced bread, and no one really does. He will be in the HOF and rightfully so, I personally would rate him below Hopkins and Jones and ahead of Toney, I think that is a fair and reasonable assessment.
