Not the case until 2008-2010 (no co-promotions and UFC still had competition), and even then reaching the top means only beating 1-2 decent contenders. How many title shots/main events has Frank Mir been in?...good lord..

They also seem to love interim champions.

The biggest problem for MMA is that the talent pool is too shallow and the fighters are too likely to pull out of the card to justify the 15 PPVs a years + another 20 shows on cable.

          WTF?
Doesn't that fulfill the fighters who say put the best in front of me too?
True, but I'll tell you one thing. If Manny and Floyd were in the UFC we would have seen them fight three times already.

Most casual MMA fans do not look outside of the UFC so there is a wide belief the best MMA fighters are attached to the organization. I don't know enough about MMA to make an educated comment on that.

Thats a dumb arguement you're trying to make. First off, the UFC has never produced super stars such as Pac or Floyd, so its hard to say. The closest fights of the magnitude of Pac-Floyd would be Silva-GSP and Lesnar-Fedor a few years back, two fights that never happened by the way.

UFC was a fad, and the fad has passed. I'm starting to see less and less douche bags in affliction and tap out tees. Big name white American stars like Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, and Brock Lesnar etc. are all retired. Now the sport is overwhelmingly dominated by a black guy(Jon Jones) and a bunch of Brazilians that the UFC's redneck fanbase could give a **** about. I'm not much of a fan of UFC, but I'm not a hater either. There are some things they do better than boxing, but they could take a lesson or two from boxing as well. Like learning how to build up a star, and not having all of your sports biggest fights on ppv. Boxing holds 95% of it's biggest fights on HBO and Showtime. I prefer the boxing business model.

I'm no fan of Bob Arum by any means, but that guy knows how to build up a star. He made Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, Julio Chavez jr., Brandon Rios, Juan Manuel Lopez, and Yuriokis Gamboa what they are today. Not to mention Tim Bradley is now a household name. Goldenboy has an entire stable full of future stars as well i.e. Garry Russell jr., Adrien Broner, Amir Khan, Canelo Alvarez, Devon Alexander, and Victor Ortiz. Floyd and Manny will be retiring in a couple of years, but the future of boxing looks very bright. UFC's numbers have been on a steady decline since the height of Brockmania.

The real difference between boxing and the UFC is that the UFC is a glorified toughman contest.

MMA tries to do EVERYTHING that boxing does but fails. If White could stall a match between the top two best to build anticipation and appeal he certainly would.

Problem is MMA has to shoot its load up front just to stay relevant. Its always been that way. The minute that MMA tried to build up anticipation they would instantly watch their numbers plunge. With MMA its all or nothing. So they have to constantly bring the fireworks.

That's why MMA fighters are recycled much more often than boxers.

Boxers usually make a career out of fighting if they're contenders.

MMA fighters give a go at it for a few years and call it a day. Only a few have real longevity.

And then there's the difference in skill.

Ray Mercer could walk into MMA and defeat one of the top HW fighters. While no MMA fighter alive could beat even a C level pro boxer under boxing rules.

Chop Chop Corley would look like Manny Pacquiao against anyone ever in MMA.

                So get real.

There's a reason why the difference between boxing and MMA numbers are a couple of zeros.
