The real difference between boxing and the UFC is that the UFC is a glorified toughman contest.
MMA tries to do EVERYTHING that boxing does but fails. If White could stall a match between the top two best to build anticipation and appeal he certainly would.
Problem is MMA has to shoot its load up front just to stay relevant. Its always been that way. The minute that MMA tried to build up anticipation they would instantly watch their numbers plunge. With MMA its all or nothing. So they have to constantly bring the fireworks.
That's why MMA fighters are recycled much more often than boxers.
Boxers usually make a career out of fighting if they're contenders.
MMA fighters give a go at it for a few years and call it a day. Only a few have real longevity.
And then there's the difference in skill.
Ray Mercer could walk into MMA and defeat one of the top HW fighters. While no MMA fighter alive could beat even a C level pro boxer under boxing rules.
Chop Chop Corley would look like Manny Pacquiao against anyone ever in MMA.
So get real.
There's a reason why the difference between boxing and MMA numbers are a couple of zeros.
Boxers only box, well they also clinch, jab, back pedal, run, which makes it boring. Most fights are 36 min of left hand right hand ...clinch....over and over again...MMA on the other hand is real fighting ....ask James Toney...lolol
The UFCs inability to create superstars is the main reason its a dying sport.
Too many vanilla fighters with average records doing the same stuff. That's why almost 40 yr old Franklins and Silvas are headlining ppvs and why ratings and ppvs are falling like stocks in 1987.
Building up stars with padded records actually brings in excitement.
When you reach the top ofthe UFC. It's because you were the best guy. Simple as that. No padding or shady fights to get a cheap vacant title. That's what I like and respect the most.
Like the 2-1 record Brock Lesnar got a HW title shot with.
