I think he's been something of a victim of his own fame and success. Some fans remember him more for his popularity, his ability to make huge PPV sales and his famous loses, than for his excellent skills and ability. He deserves a lot of credit for the opponents he fought, and for the ones he beat. De La Hoya had almost every skill you could want in a fighter. Speed, technical boxing skills, power, heart and chin. The only things he lacked in the ring was consistency and discipline. One of my favorite fighters of all time and a true throw back.

        Barrera, Cotto.

He has a style and uses angle's that's very effective against a left handed, left hand dominant orthodox fighter.

I think that Oscar was along with Mosley & Forrest, the last great welterweights. And they were bottom of the barrel at that. And Tito of course, silly me.

Oscar beats pacquaio and mayweather in his prime. to much speed and reflex when he was 25 years old

If anything, Tito was the last great welter.

Good call. I still don't think Oscar fights anything like them.

Here's a quote from De La Hoya before the Whitaker fight:

On whether the judges might favor him:

"I think so. Unfortunately, that's boxing...it's all politics, it's all about money, what the WBC sees is that I'm a young fighter. If I win the title I obviously make more money than Whitaker or anyone else. "

I think so too. I don't see how anyone can think not. Then again 80% of these guys think Margarito was a beast in 2010.
