Better resume Jmm or Cotto

Marquez is considered great because he lost to pacuqiao 3 times lol. Yes i know the first time was a draw but come on do you honestly think he got that 4 point swing? Hell no. He fought his way back into the fight and won more rounds but lost the fight.
2nd fight would of been another draw if he didn't touch the canvas.
3rd fight he was winning until he gave up the last 2 rounds.
Marquez is a hof'er no doubt but his resume isn't that good compared to other fighters.Comment

Which argument are you going to use Larry?
First it's prime, then it's overall career....What next? Pick one and stick to it. The fact is whichever one you use Marquez has a better answer for.
Mosley and Barrera were past their best, but still had great efforts left one more time....Barrera against Marquez, but still losing clearly, and Mosley against Marg.
Overall, Barrera is the greater fighter and looked greater against Marquez than Mosley did against Cotto. Barrera>Mosley
Medina>Margarito
Medina was never caught cheating. Won more titles and beat more champions over a longer, greater career. He's among the very, very few fighters in history to have regained the championship 5 or more times in the same division. You just heard of Margarito more because he's more famous now. Certainly not a greater fighter. Also won back the FW title after Marquez beat him.
Casa>>>>>>>>>Quintana/Margarito/Judah/Malignaggi put together (Quintana, Malignaggi are on the level of someone like Peden or Sanchez. Guys who were never even mentioned for Marquez despite having some great wins, and being champs and yet you've got those level guys as among the best wins for Cotto. That alone should tell you everything you need to know. The same level guys for Marquez don't even get mentioned as among his best wins).
Diaz>>>Malignaggi (
). Despite the 1-1 record Diaz has the greater fighters on his own resume and was a much greater champion, and unified his division.
Anyway, I can't be bothered with the rest. Marquez' resume is better. Full stop.Last edited by BennyST; 05-17-2012, 11:52 PM.Comment

Based on just the lists you provided here I would say Cotto. But Pacquiao should be on his list, we all know that. And with Pac on JMM resume it becomes better than Cottos.Comment

This^^^^I love all the names that people have brought up for Cotto, but not mentioned any of the others for Marquez.
Either way, Manuel Medina is greater than Katsidis and Juarez by a mile and better than just about anyone on Cotto's resume not named Mosley. He's a 6 time champ and FW great. What about Smoke Gainer?
Orlando Salido?
Julio Gervacio?
Robbie Peden?
Alfred Kotey?
Agapito Sanchez?
All of these guys were/are top champs.
Even Polo, who was twice majorly robbed of title wins, is better than Katsidis (as much as I love him).
Anyway, it's Marquez for me.
Casamayor
Diaz
Barrera
Pacquiao
Gainer
Medina
Salido
Sanchez
Peden
Kotey
etc
etc
There are champions in that list (and more champs that weren't listed) that go from 1990 to current champs right now and Marquez has beaten all of them. Yes, all of them. That's a 22 year span of champions beaten.
They also range from champions at Bantamweight all the way to Jr middleweight champions. Well, I'm not sure I can say JMW with any seriousness, but...
That's champions across 22 years and through bantamweight, superbantamweight, featherweight, superfeatherweight, lightweight, Jr welterweight, welterweight and a fake JMW.
some of you clearly are new to the sport or only watch the fights that are on HBO because JMM's resume is on a completely different level than cotto's. He was already a vet going into the first pac fight.Comment

I don't usually give fighters a lot of credit for loses, but Marquez deserves a ton for the Pac fights and the first was officially a draw even though he went on to perform better in the next two fights.Comment

Oh yeah, having official and unofficial wins over two top 100 ATG's, it's definitely Marquez. And that's just to say the least. Bennyst covered a lot of ground with his post. There's nothing much to add after that.Comment

I love Cotto, but I give JMM credit for Pacquiao. His resume is better even if you don't count those though IMO. As for hall of fame part, I think JMM will retire first and get in before Cotto. They'll make the Hall of Fame though easy.Comment
