This isn't the amateurs. The object isn't to end the round landing one more punch than you opponent.

Not letting your hands go is NOT a virtue nor is it a sign of being "well rounded". It's a sign of buttoning up and playing defense.....at the expense of your offense.

Ali in his prime was the best fighter ever to me.

          Had good/decent power.
          ATG footwork
          ATG speed
          ATG jab
Good enough defense and reflexes to do what he wanted

Ali in his prime > Mayweather in his prime

Any day of the week. And I love Floyd Mayweather. H2H, Floyd may be one of the GOAT, but I still got Ali. I am not comparing the two if they fought, because obviously Ali was a HW. But, in terms of the greatest fighter of all-time in their prime, I'd go with Ali any day of the week.

If you throw less but land more effectively than your opponent, isn't that a sign of good offense?

And unlike Floyd, prime Ali let his hands go.

That's not the really the case with Floyd though. He still lands much more and throws much less than his opponents.

Nope. If you land 5 punches and your opponent lands none then neither of you did enough to win the round. This isn't the amateurs. And in those situation judges frequently would score the round for the guy who was at least trying to score punches.....not for the dude who took a landed a couple of pot shots and called it a day.

And by the way, the whole thing about Pep winning a round without throwing a punch is a MYTH. It never happend. You have to score to win: Defense alone isn't going to do it.

Pac, BH, Morales, JMM. JMM has fought Pac 3 times and lost by the narrowest of margins. Morales has beat Pac and imo beat Maidana the conqueror of Ortiz.

All down to defense really. His opponents arent scoring with their punches because of his defense. When you go all out to attack you will be open to counters cos you forget about defense. Cos FLoyd makes no effort to attack and be offensive it isnt relevant in Floyds case. He only has to counter.
