FYI, I already said, I think Bute is a good fighter against mid-level opposition. It's just his resume that stinks and isn't title shot worthy.
Ward is the Ring Magazine Champ. Bute is the Ring Magazine #1 contender. Period.

    Ring Magazine rankings:

    Champion: Ward
    1) Bute
    2) Kessler
    3) Froch
    4) Stieglitz
    5) Bika
    6) Oosthuizen
    7) Groves
    8) Johnson
    9) Abraham
    10) Degale

Ward has already beat 2, 3, 5. Nobody else is anywhere close to being as worthy as Bute. This is a practical matter. Call it the top choice by default, if you want. But he's the top choice nonetheless.

I've never denied the fact that Bute is #1. But he's #1 by default, not because he earned it. You shouldn't get a chance to fight the SS winner by default. You should earn it. What's wrong with Bute fighting a few solid fighters before getting his shot?

      Why is that so bad?

I'm looking at Bute's last 3 fights while the SS was going on and people are saying Bute had "no one" else to fight but McGee, Mendy and Johnson.
Please just live in the now. The tournament is over, everyone is no longer tied up in the tournament. Lots of great fights to go down in 2012 at 168. I'm excited.

The tourny hasn't even been over a week yet lol

I'm still bringing up the tourny because it's necessary in the point being made.

You're right. There are plenty of fights that can be made, but they must be with each other before going to Ward.

Man, you are really used to fighters being coddled and protected huh? Let the fighters fight.

I agree about the bolded, and froch vs Bute in each other's hometown are going to provide amazing atmospheres and will certainly be great fights.

            • The title of this article should be:

If Ward does'nt run away like Pavlik and Kessler did, Hopkins would be another option and the boxing fans on internet will again say that Bute is fighting nobody...

                .
                Huh?

I've been screaming for the Kirkland vs Canelo fight to take place for months now. Canelo and Chavez are the most protected fighters on here. I never protect those guys.

If you want to see an example of someone that "deserves" a title shot, look at Kirkland; then look at Bute and you'll see a difference.

Because it's impractical. The list speaks for itself. The only other quality opponents are Kessler and Froch- who Ward not only beat, but dominated- and Dirrell, who hasn't fought in a year and nine months, and has never seemed too keen on fighting his bestest friend in the whole wide world! haha. Like I said, if he's #1 by default, so be it. He's still #1. He's still far more worthy than anyone other than Froch and Kessler. Some say that the division is deep, but not in terms of quality opponents for Ward.

This is not about the tournament winner. This is about *the* Super-Middleweight Champion of the World. Not beltholder, champion. It's okay to take one soft touch now if he wants to, but he's obligated, as the Champ in his division, to fight the top contender after that (if Bute will take the fight, who knows if he will.)

                    • Hopkins is a bore and needs to retire or try something new and follow in the footsteps of toney tarver and rjj and move up to cruiser and or heavyweight and bring something exciting to the table. But Hopkins has no pop or power so he got to stay safe at Lh because he's scared to take a punch and does not have the power to ko anybody and his last ko against de la hoya seemed like a staged fight and it probably was.
