Better career as of now? Ward or Calzaghe?

Ward is already the more accomplished fighter @ 168.
Ward has wins over #1 & #2 ranked fighters in the division, and they were beaten in pretty dominant fashion at that.
This is something Calzaghe failed to do during his entire run @ Super Middleweight.
As far as their overall career's, they're about dead even. With a slight edge to Calzaghe because of his "win" over an ancient Hopkins.Comment

But, Kessler was much fresher, more active and really better when he fought Calzaghe then the version that fought Ward. That version of Ward is still damn solid.
IDK, sometimes I think Calzaghe gets underrated. He's no ATG. But, he was pretty solid who had a good career.Comment

Not technically, no.
He beat Kessler who was #1 and Lacy who was #3.
But of course, Lacy was in the Top 2 other than himself, who was #1.
So in reality he did beat the #1 and #2 in his division at some point not including himself.
Although, these two are the only two fighters who fought who were ranked in the Top 5 at Super Middleweight in his entire reign there.Comment

At the time of Kess/Lacy?
You know, I rarely say this, but avoiding Sven "Hands of Stone" Ottke is a legit duck IMO. I've seen that guy get beat and still get the decision. Plus, I don't have any doubts he would have got slapped up, none at all. Ottke was crap.Comment

I don't think he was that much better. If better at all. But, Kessler was much fresher, more active and really better when he fought Calzaghe then the version that fought Ward. That version of Ward is still damn solid.

Pretty much the same fighter.Comment

He didn't avoid Ottke. Ottke's people weren't taking that call. Calzaghe's people made offers and looked into it. He wasn't going to Germany for sure. Smart man. Ottke in Germany was, um, dubious.Comment
