More rumors on Mayweather/Ortiz PPV buys
Collapse

If The Mayweather Camp, truly believe that Floydie is the "Money Man"
then they should be the one confirming the real result of the PPV of the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight!
But, if they keep SILENT on this issue, and allow the guessing game to flow on the media, then their credibility is going to be questioned.

fLol they were released though.
The numbers for this one have not been released - which one can only conclude means that they are embarassing.
Gee...they got paid...did you forget the part where they also have to pay for all the promotion, venue etc...?????
If you take in $70, but had to pay $100 in order to do so, you made a loss and you don't want people to know..hence you don't release.
1.1 million for an event of this magnitude under the circumstances is lower than I thought it would be...and therefore disappointing.
Again ******, your whole argument is that this PPV did lower than expected. Which is the examples I gave. So by YOUR own ****** ass logic those are disappointment as well.
And, the venue pays them to host it. Because, they make their money in other areas like rooms, casino play etc etc...I'm not even counting the ticket sales...That's another 7 figures.
And, "event for this magnitude"? They didn't hype this one like Oscar-Tito or Oscar-Floyd. So lets not act like they spend so much promotion on this fight...Did they? Yes, Was it what their hope? No. Has this happened before? yes...Is it a disappointment? Not if they made profit.
You think the promotes spend a 100million in promotion?
Where you get the number 100 from?
Even look at this way. Lets say the real number is 500k. That's 35mil dollars in just PPV. Not counting the what the MGM or MB paid to host it(since they have running partnership with GBP) nor the ticket sales nor closed circut buys(including: theaters) just purely PPV. Floyd was guaranteed what? 20mil? That leaves 15mil, Ortiz got what guaranteed?2mil? Lets say 5mil...That still leaves 10mil for the upside....Now you not counting all the other income that's coming in, as in ticket sales nor closed circut money.
And, that's if it did 500k...So imagine if it did the around a mili? Everyone is getting paid...Even if it did the 850kbuys at 70 a pop plus the income they generated in...Yes everyone is getting paid...Only an ignorant idiot think they notComment

So F'ing what? Oscar De La Hoya. Arguably the biggest cash cow fought the biggest Mexican legend there have every been on a Mexican holiday and it didn't do close to a mili buys...No where close to it...Not even close to the 850k mark that was rumored...And, yet it wasn't considered disappointing...So GTFOH.You don't know that for sure...numbers have yet to be officially released (if they ever are)
That aside, an event held on a Mexican holiday, with Mexican legends/stars on the undercard......and 1.1 mill? They were clearly aiming to outdo Pacquiao-Mosley 1.3mil and didn't.Comment

Holy crap you just contradicted yourself and you don't even realize it. You say I don't know for sure yet you state Pac-Mosley 1.3 mil buys as a fact yet it was never confirmed by Show Time? LOL. Are you dumb or? Also going by your logic if it was a success they would've released it so I ask you this why haven't they released it yet if I did 1.3mil which would be a huge success. You don't know that for sure...numbers have yet to be officially released (if they ever are)

And if you want to compare PPV buys Mayweather-Mosley clearly outdid Pac-Mosley.
Hell even if Mayweather-Ortiz did around 1mil, it outdos Pac-Mosley(Not confirmed either) considering the huge PRICE difference in PPV price and also the fact that there was only 1 MARQUEE name headlining the Mayweather-Ortiz fight. Under cards don't sell the fight, main events do buddy - only hardcore fans truly consider the under card fights.
Please stop, you're making it too easy.Last edited by Phil Ivey; 10-19-2011, 12:29 AM.Comment

I didn't expect Pac - Cotto or any of those to do significantly over 1 million. So no , I didn't find them disappointing...promoters were happy to release the figures.
This one I expected, with all the hype etc would at least break pac mosley and it didnt....
I don't care what you think, I consider 1.1 million a good number, but nevertheless disappointing, given the circumstances.
...........And, the venue pays them to host it. Because, they make their money in other areas like rooms, casino play etc etc...I'm not even counting the ticket sales...That's another 7 figures.
I didn't say mayweather/ortiz themselves made a loss...i said the investors after that probably made a loss, which is why they havent released it yet.
Whatever they made, most people likely lost big time. And that's because they were expecting more than the 1.1 million [which mind you is the upper estimate]And, "event for this magnitude"? They didn't hype this one like Oscar-Tito or Oscar-Floyd. So lets not act like they spend so much promotion on this fight...Did they? Yes, Was it what their hope? No. Has this happened before? yes...Is it a disappointment? Not if they made profit.
This was obviously meant to do outdo pac-mosley and didnt.
70 / 100 is a generic example, not meant to signify the actual numbers in this fight. Point is, if you dont cover what you pay, you make a loss....:OYou think the promotes spend a 100million in promotion?
Where you get the number 100 from?
500k would be downright horrendous.Even look at this way. Lets say the real number is 500k. That's 35mil dollars in just PPV. Pac mosley was released by espn, giving a confident figure...so far all we have from this one is estimates.
I wasnt trying to compare ppv buys, so congratulations. 1.4 was a very good number. And if you want to compare PPV buys Mayweather-Mosley clearly outdid Pac-Mosley.
When richard schaefer releases the number to espn (ie confirms it - not guesstimates it) then you can make that statement.Hell even if Mayweather-Ortiz did around 1mil, it outdos Pac-Mosley(Not confirmed either) considering the huge PRICE difference in PPV price and also the fact that there was only 1 MARQUEE name headlining the Mayweather-Ortiz fight. Under cards don't sell the fight, main events do buddy - only hardcore fans truly consider the under card fights.

I still say that 1.1 million is rather low for a mayweather vs mexican fight on mexican holiday. Mayweather usually generates much higher than that...Comment

Oh no! Big Boy Richard said they were expecting 4 MILLION PPV buys for Mayweather-Mosley! Instead they got a measly 1.4 million! OMG They lost 10s of millions of dollars! Good god boxing is going bankrupt!Comment
-
?? im not talking about mayweather-mosley. as i just said in my previous post, 1.4 was good.
Something is fishy about this ortiz fight though...why have they still not released it after a month? That usually indicates bad news [i.e big losses]
And regardless of profit/loss, 1.1 million is quite low for a mayweather v mexican fight on mexican holiday. Of course, a financial loss [quite likely] makes it even more disappointing.Comment
