its still a huge success if it hovers around 1.1mil considering the price of the PPV and Ortiz whose relatively unknown and never headlined a PPV fight.

      Pretty much.

People still buy much weaker, less competitive matchups. 24/7, optimism of an upset, whatever, they still sell. Of course not as much as Mayweather-Pacquiao would, but both guys and their promoters still make huge money.

They can dangle the carrot in front of us and just make lesser fights.

Remember "Roycott" in the early 00s? How about a "Floydcott" and "Pac-cott"??

"Bu, bu, but Floyd is too puzzy"

I'd say 1.1 million is rather disappointing.
        I'd say that you're ******.

The fact that Mark Taffet, the head of HBO's PPV department and the guy who ALWAYS releases the figures to the media is deflecting questions about HBO PPV numbers means Mayweather/GBP put that gag order on him. It'd be pretty odd to keep a million buy PPV under wraps, that's a great success IMO. I'm thinking it did far less than 1 million.

Don't care what Iole's 'sources' say, those are probably the same 'sources' who told him it did 1.3-1.4 million. The only people who know the real number don't want to talk about it. Only means one thing:

it's a good number, but not a huge success.

considering ortiz is a young guy with not a huge fanbase and the ridiculous price for the ppv, it's not that bad. i've never been one to care about numbers, it doesn't affect me, but let's see what pac/jmm III does. if it does way better than this though, that'll have manny at the top of p4p and ppv ratings. i know mayweather and his fans call him the ppv king so we'll see what's up.
i do remember seeing ads on spanish networks for deals on the ppv, like sign up to att and get the ppv free or some shit, idk if that affects the numbers or something. i've seen recent ones for pac/jmm III as well.

                  This is true.

And, aww the Roycott I remember that.

It won't happen with these two though. Their fan bases are straight up **** riders like no other fan base since Tyson.

Your point? Do you want to go by Pac numbers and the numbers that Arum were hoping for?

Doesn't mean it was a disappointed. It's hard to a mili buys....Hell it's hard to do above 500k buys. That's why only 2 fighters right now can do above 500k on a consistent basis.

If it was easy to do 500k then so many other fighters would do it. But, they can't...So consider that and think about the mili buy rate?

Yea...Like PEDuser, LarryX and 210 said....As long as they doing those mili buys, they laughing to the bank. That's a success....They will never fight each other. Unless they start doing really disappointing numbers. And, I'm talking about around 500-600k.

LOL @ any idiot that thinks anything around the mili mark is a disappointment.

Did you not read what i wrote above the disappointing bit?

Considering all that went into it, 1.1 million is disappointing.

You have to realize that now that since they have not yet released the numbers, they did lower than expected.

Lower than expected = disappointed....is that difficult to understand?

1.1 million itself is good, but considering the circumstances, it's also disappointing.

And i get the feeling that 1.1 million is the very top estimate....

That's good for floyd mayweather and victor ortiz that they are taking their money to the bank. The investors on the other hand, probably made a loss on this.
