The reason I'm discussing who is better than Mayweather is because I was asked. It's a subject for discussion, in case you missed the meaning. A poster began a topic, and in the spirit of the topic I posted my candid opinion. Is that forbidden these days?? Your snide comment about past boxers doesn't become you, because if you knew more, you'd realise that every style and trick and gimmick that fighters today employ, were already being used a hundred years ago. And many more that have been forgotten.

Perhaps you have been misled by the stilted pictures of the late 19th century boxers before the Marquis of Queensberry Rules became universal, who would pose in that stiff, both feet planted, both arms extended with both fists upturned, and without gloves. As well as Jim Corbett and Peter Courtney antics for the camera. incidentally just a week or two ago I was reading an article about why they turned their fists UP instead of (as presently) DOWN, and it made a lot of sense.

Did you ever see a picture of a family taken in those days ........ They looked exactly the same, stilted and unnatural, with the father sitting, with his neck clamped in a frame, his hat on his knee, his wife atanding with her hand on his shoulder and the other children suitably arrayed around them as the photographers of the times thought proper. But that didn't prevent them from producing YOU......Did it??

Which is why I pointed out speed and most important reach (relative to his height) which coupled with his skill and genetics suggests he possesses the skills both physically and technically, to deal with someone who actually comes to FIGHT..

I don't have a list, and would drive myself crazy trying to make one. The point I'm pushing is that although TV Colour and better photography may have made fights and fighters look better, and we can see every little thing that goes on, these same things also went on years ago as well.

But there was NO WELFARE STATE, there was a world in which if you didn't earn, and pay, you actually starved to death. I often read of famines in various parts of the world where 25-30,000 people had starved to death. You died from an abcessed tooth, or appendicitis etc. SO only the very toughest survived, and they are the guys we've all been reading about for so mnay years. I don't think there is anyone today, except maybe a Glen Johnson,or perhaps a Bernard Hopkins, and maybe not even them, who couild go through what these guys did, both to stay alive, and get to the top of a very rough heap.

When I grew up, and got to realize exactly what my own dear parents had to do, just to keep themselves and 6 children alive, I was appalled. And I mean EVERY day, and sometimes day and night also. the meanest kind of work, often self made. ANYTHING that would make an honest shilling. We're not capable for these things today, none of us.

I just mentioned yesterday that Sugar Ray Robinson, who, for ME is comparatively recent, fought 2 fights in the 2 weeks before his Middleweight Title Fight with Randolph Turpin. Of course he lost, but a few months later, KO'd Turpin. He hadn't been training, he was fighting on his European Tour instead. But 2 full fights and then a Middleweight 15 rounder. And by then, he was far beyond his peak, on the downgrade as compared to his best days, which were when he was a welterweight.

And I can't recall EVER giving a single opinion on who would win, if they fought each other. It is of only sporting interest to me, nothing more. And I don't care if they never fight. Nor how much money they make or lose.

My comments on these things are purely based on FACTS, a thing which is very scarce around these pages, and I'm always ready to get into a discussion BASED ON FACTS not IMAGINATION..

I don't recall saying that Mayweather was a "blip", it's a term I've never used, although I think I know what it means. No one who stays around for as long as Mayweather, could be classed as insignificant IN HIS TIME PERIOD, it's just when compared to the whole body of boxing history, which is basically what the TOPIC STARTER was doing, he is not significant. And I have no hesitation in saying so.

You have caught the habit of using the word "hate" loosely. Too bad. I personally, hate Nobody, and haven't, since the end of WW2. That's the only hate which will never leave me.

You fail to realise that Floyd Mayweather either as a person or as a boxer is of little significance to me. {And when I say "little" I really mean NONE} I don't know him, I wouldn't care if I'd never seen him, and why I should "hate" someone who has done me no harm when I don't hate many others who have actually done me harm, is something I don't quite understand. The only fight of his that I can say I have enjoyed is with Emanuel Augustus. Even to make you happy, I can't say that I hate him. To me he is a bit pathetic, vaguely comical, no more. I hate NOBODY except virulent AntiSemites who have and do persecute innocent harmless people. Other bad people I leave to their God.

I suggest that you are off the rails a bit here. But I will say that when a subject comes up, and I feel like writing about it, I don't hold back on my personal opinions, based on the facts put before me, combined with some constructive thinking.
