I see you're familiar with wikipedia...

In 1789 he opened his own boxing academy and published the book The Art of Boxing on modern "scientific" style boxing which every subsequent boxer learned from.

Though he stood only 5'7" and weighed only 160 pounds, Mendoza was England’s sixteenth Heavyweight Champion from 1792 to 1795, and is the only middleweight to ever win the Heavyweight Championship of the World

If you'd actually read something about Mendoza you'd see that He was beaten by "Gentleman" John Jackson, who was NO Gentleman. He was about 6 inches taller, about 50 lbs heavier and about 5-6 years younger.

He was able to beat him ONLY by catching Mendoza's long hair and holding his head under his arm, in what they called "chancery", whilst punching hell out of his face.

It was this fight which caused the fashion of short hair in fighters.

I happen to have had the autobiography of Mendoza, written actually, by himself, for many years, and still carefully put away in new condfition, and he was mostly about 155 lbs. although much less when he began.

He is regarded as the Father of Scientific Boxing, which until then was merely a matter of "toing the mark", and standing there and BASHING away at one another. That was why they used to steep their fists in brine, their faces too.

He was actually NOT World Champion, but Champion of England, which, in a way, was about the same thing..at the time.

I'm not a Pac anything, I admire the way he was able to pull himself up from the dirt, and become what he is. But that's as a person, and not merely as a boxer, although boxing supplied the money for him to do it.

And what does "go hoe" mean?? That sort of stuff is a foreign language to me. Anything to do with "Tally Ho"....or "Westward Ho",............??

And I can't recall EVER giving a single opinion on who would win, if they fought each other. It is of only sporting interest to me, nothing more. And I don't care if they never fight. Nor how much money they make or lose.

My comments on these things are purely based on FACTS, a thing which is very scarce around these pages, and I'm always ready to get into a discussion BASED ON FACTS not IMAGINATION..

Tou have the wrong person, I'm afraid.

How did I forget Pancho Villa and Jimmy Wilde.

                    Apologies for the omissions.
