The only questions I have about Kelly now is what the hell were you drinking and how much of it when you did this interview? Everything that you are crying about is YOUR FAULT and no one else. You signed the contracts! You did not ask questions! You devalued your worth with drugs, booze and walking away from the sport that made you more money than anyone else in your small town!
Boxing has more ***** in it than litter boxes these days.

i have no problem with pavlik placing blame on scumbag bob if he's only one to blame.....but his agent ????....the guy who he pays to negotiate his purse didn't tell him until the week of the fight that he's only making making 50,000 dollars ????.....gtfoh....he has more excuses than a crackhead's allowed. this guy's been overrated from the door.

His explanation actually makes some sense.Still pulling out from this fight may have been a bad idea.

If, and let me repeat that, if, what Pavlik is saying is true then I don't think its such a bad decision to pull out and wait until his contract is up with TR. The guy has made some good money so if he chooses to quit entirely so be it. If not then he needs to first get the right management team around him and then make a committed run at the 168 pound division. There will be a stable of fighters waiting if he wants to get back to it. Maybe he will have to do FNF on the way back and maybe has a little less money offered to him at least initially, but maybe this road gives him the opportunity to operate his career on his own terms. For God's sake by reading these comments you would think that Bob Arum is some choir boy. $50,000 in Youngstown on a major network. Whaaat?

Oh yeah, I guess I can somewhat understand those who claim that its his management team's fault for the business that has been done with Top Rank, and he has a responsibility to live up to whatever contract that has been made. That said, this is boxing, there is more risk involved in this game than pretty much any occupation out there so if he feels like he's getting screwed on a deal I think its well within his right to back out and seek better opportunities. The argument that no one will care about him in a year is bull. The guy has a big name and and knocks people out. Who on this website would not tune in to see him headline FNF next year after he holds out? And don't tell me ESPN wouldn't want to put him on. Of course, this all depends on if he wants to fight or not. If not good luck to ya Kelly.Last edited by slick23; 08-03-2011, 04:00 PM.

Here was the move:
Go out, look good on Saturday night. Knock that scrub out. THEN you have negotiation leverage because the network and public would be clamoring for the fight. That would force Bob's hand at least a little bit.
What this white drunkard just did was to give away all his leverage and bargaining power.
You should NEVER alienate the fans and network. Piss off your promoter and management. But never the fans or network.

Pavlik is messing up but his agent and Showtime dropped the ball a little, too. They could have taken 150k from the Bute purse and thrown it on the Cunningham fight to make sure this fight happened. Of course that in hindsight, everything is easier to see but they had to know that Pav wouldn't be happy fighting for 50k and that they were risking the Bute fight falling through.

He probably should be getting more than 50k for Cunningham (although I'm perplexed as to why he signed the contract in the first place if he wasn't aware of the numbers involved?), but then again, I wouldn't find any reason to give him more than 1 mill for the Bute bout...Pavlik is just a name at this point, until he proves himself again. It's harsh I know, but this guy's trying to justify his ideal worth by bringing up a fight he lost in...doesn't do much for an argument. If Pavlik would've not complained and just said, 'my hearts not in it anymore,' then by all means walk away. The last thing any fan wants to see is a guy walk in the ring, not wanting to be there.
