If you're strictly looking at names, I think Hopkins has the edge. But when you factor in RJJ being shot, dragging Wright and Pavlik up to 170, Tarver fading and weight drained, Oscar having no business at MW (as proven by his fight with Sturm) etc, it swings in Pac's favor, IMO.

Bernard Hopkins.
Because he fought the following: Roy Jones, Glen Johnson, Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya, Jermain Taylor (twice), Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik, Jean Pascal.
I didn't include the Roy Jones rematch, obviously. He is 46, and he is about to fight Pascal again.
Manny Pacquiao is only 32 and is already fighting easy fights.

resume and P4P ATG status? easily hopkins. 20 successive division defenses as lineal champ is greater than su****ious catch-weights and paper titles. Hopkins cleaned the division, he ****** it dry.
people often say he was king during a weak period, but it was weak because hopkins dominated every contender they put in-front of him. no catch-weight bull****, no fighters coming off career changing loses. for 20 defenses he fought legit contenders (except the occasional bum, im looking at you Hakkar!). there's a reason he's not considered a duck.
i love pacquiao, but his resume is quite deceiving. p4p i don't think he is on hopkins' level. if he defeats mayweather and hold the lineal 147 for a couple of years, maybe, just maybe.

Resume wise, Hopkins takes the cake for systematically destroying so many HOF's.
Keep in mind how long B.Hop has been at the highest tiers of Boxing.
Frankly I'm surprised no one has accused him of doing steroids.
If somehow Pac stays in the game long enough to match B.Hops years, then maybe they'd be comparable.
Fact is B.Hops been in with them all due to his long years in boxing, but he's won big fights and lost big fights.
The only big fight Pac has ever lost was to Morales the first time.
There can be no denying that B.Hop is a legend of the game, but Pac is no slouch and will eventually have to fight a big name again.
A W over Mayweather or Martinez puts Pac in the higher echelon imo.

Hopkins IMO hands down....he was an underdog (in nearly all of his major wins)against undefeated fighters while Manny is the favourite against damaged goods who he is supposed to beat.Forget about the "Manny beats bigger fighters", because it's bull****.He asks for every advantage possible to ensure a victory when he is the betting favourite to begin with...
You can put asteriks near both of their resumes in places, but Hopkins has fought a "who's who" of great fighters-a longer list than Manny-and that is pretty big, considering on paper,Manny has fought great names as well.If it is purely based on names regardless of the outcomes (because both guys have "controvertial" losses) then Hopkins has the greatest imo, especially when you take into consideration where his opponents careers were when he had fought them.Last edited by damned1974; 04-04-2011, 02:49 AM.
