Why is that? Elaborate on this. How does Hopkins need to move up several weight classes to have a better resume??? Even P4P lists don't demand you to exclusively move up in weight without cleaning divisions to be ranked higher....hard to understand where you are coming from.
better resume..hopkins,pacman

Bh resume of wins is better than Sergio martinez and Floyd mayweather but not as good as pac.

The question is pretty decieving. People may be getting caught up on who would win p4p or against eachother opponents. I think both fighters have great wins but some can be broken down as not being as good as many have appeared to already made solid points in here already for both. Those being catchweight fights, wins over smaller fighters, older fighters, weight drained fighters and/or shot fighters.
If your asking who will go down as the greater fighter, I think many will say Pacquaio. But if your asking who has the better names on their resume win, loose or draw (like the thread asks) it's a pretty close one. Without going into detail on where eachothers opponents were at the time of their career or if either fighter really deserved the decision, it is a solid question.
Here is a list of notable names fought by each fighter, with the bolded names being key opponents each have over the other..
BERNARD HOPKINS
Jones x2
Johnson
Trinidad
De La Hoya
Taylor x2
Tarver
Wright
Calzaghe
Pavlik
Pascal
MANNY PACQUAIO
Barrera x2
Morlaes x3
Marquez x2
De La Hoya
Hatton
Cotto
Margarito
Might come down whose names had more of an impact out of Jones Jr. & Trinidad or the Mexican trio??Last edited by chillifists; 04-04-2011, 05:44 AM.Comment

A lot of people imo have got it wrong. If you look at the quality of Hopkins opponents,a lot of them were undefeated,on the rise,or plain dominating while Manny's opponents were war torn, previously KO'd badly, shot,or all of the above (not to mention weight-draining a few along the way). Manny has had a habit of fighting guys on the decline, that's the truth.Comment

You learn in high school that the smaller a person is, the more losing or gaining weight effects them. Especially in boxing, because any human being who is in incredible shape at 112 or 115 pounds will have a very hard time retaining speed, power, and reflexes moving up two or three pounds. It is the equivalent of the eight pound weight jump from middleweight to super middleweight or welterweight to junior middleweight. That's why the weight classes are spread that way. Even with human beings in as good shape as all boxers are that's true. You're not backing anything up, you say because one fighter today is actually defending his lineal title that fighters at lower weight classes doesn't move up, that moving up isn't as impressive at lower weights.
No your shtick is to just make reckless statements without anything to back it up. I made my case by using simple math. You make a claim, you provide your research for it. The burden of proof for your statements is not on me.
So now it's physiology, what happened to "History" proving it. All over the place, your argumentative skills are like Arturo Gatti - C Level at best.
Tell you what, go look up how many fighters like Tito Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins and Sugar Ray Leonard and Sugar Ray Robinson and Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams there are that have moved up from 147 to 160, and then go show me how many Pacquiaos or there are that eventually moved from 126 to 147. One is a 23 pound weight jump, one is a 21 pound weight jump. Yet you will find many more fighters have successfully moved the 23 pounds and won belts than moved the 21 pounds and won belts. In fact, Pacquiao is the only one I can think of. You can even move to 130 and say how many fighters moved up 17 pounds eventually to 147 to win belts? It's a list consisting of Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Hector Camacho. You really think that's because these fighters don't want to move up? You don't consider at all that it might be because putting on that type of weight is harder for those fighters?Comment
