to be fair though, Pirog is a much more dangerous fight for Martinez than Dzin was, stylistically.

The big issue is that Martinez fought Dzin at 160lbs, even though they are probably roughly the same size.
Had Martinez fought Dzin at 154 and won Dzins belt, he would have gotten more universal credit, no doubt.

why wouldn't he get more credit for beating a top middleweight compared to a top junior middleweight? bizarro world here.

wow, really? they were going to make a 155lb catchweight fight for the Middlewight title? how ugly....

          thank you for the info.

because his mandatory is a bum. he could have fought his mandatory off hbo if he wanted. he wanted hbo's big money though. hbo promised gary shaw they would get dzinziruk a fight so they sacrificed him to martinez. dibella happily took that fight. they were ready to walk away from hbo because they rejected all of the opponents he wanted martinez to fight(they never considered pirog)

Maybe Martinez would gotten credit if his previous fight was at 154. But if he would have gone down to 154, people would accuse him of fighting a smaller fighter. No win situation.

Yuri Foreman is a top Junior Middleweight?

Besides that, Pirog's resume would be the main focus of that regardless. I'd love to see him face Pirog and I give Pirog credit and like him as a fighter. I just think Pirog gets hit early and often in that potential fight, and he gets outclassed just like Dzinziriuk.

Is Pirog seriously the only guy you want Martinez to face? These threads get made like there is some huge block of elite guys Martinez needs to face that he's ducking and he's cherry-picking among the 2nd tier. News alert: That's all that's out there.

I think it's more of the way he beat him. Outjabbed a guy with one of the best jabs in boxing, knocked down a guy who I don't think had ever been down and then stopped him. Making him look like he didn't belong in the ring (save maybe rounds 6 and 7) in the process.

And Dzinziruk might not have had the best resume, but it's leagues above Pirog's.

More dangerous? Not going to argue. Significant greater chance of winning than Dzinziruk? No.

you don't think pirog has a much better chance at winning than dzinziruk? have you ever seen him fight? he would not be a 7 to 1 underdog that's for sure.
