Besides that, Pirog's resume would be the main focus of that regardless. I'd love to see him face Pirog and I give Pirog credit and like him as a fighter. I just think Pirog gets hit early and often in that potential fight, and he gets outclassed just like Dzinziriuk.

Is Pirog seriously the only guy you want Martinez to face? These threads get made like there is some huge block of elite guys Martinez needs to face that he's ducking and he's cherry-picking among the 2nd tier. News alert: That's all that's out there.
yes because he's gone so far out of his way to duck him twice now. when your promoter goes mental to discredit a fighter you know they are worried.

He wouldn't be a 7-1 underdog, but he'd be a clear underdog still.

Please give me the list of 154-160 pounders he's ducking not named Pirog. That's really all you got, and it's not a money fight. I hope HBO pushes for it though...

I personally disagree with that, although its just my opinion.

Dzin is a pretty straightfoward fighter. I didnt think Martinez would dominate like he did, but I definitely didnt think he was in any danger of losing.

Pirog's style is unconventional and hard to predict. not to mention he is much naturally larger and hits harder.

I could see Martinez missing a beat against Pirog and getting in trouble...I never could see that against Dzin.

That's fair. I just see Martinez being more cautious against Pirog, but still dominating him. Pirog does have a better chance at winning, but going into the fight I didn't think it was clear cut Dzinziruk was for sure going to lose.

and dzinziruk was a money fight? martinez isn't getting any big money fights. hbo is gonna put up the same amount of money no matter his opponent. instead of fighting one of the best guys in his division he's fighting dzinziruk and manfredo because he doesn't want to risk losing. we've seen this story in boxing over and over again.

hbo can push all they want but dibella is not doing it that's crystal clear. he was ready to walk away from an hbo fight until hbo brought up dzinziruk. pirog was ready and available and they were gonna walk away. now he's gone out of his way to discredit pirog as a potential opponent.

You are missing my point. I think the reason Martinez is not fighting Pirog is because he gains nothing out of it from a monetary and legacy perspective, and Lou is obsessed and upset with the belt aspect of it.

I think he could still fight Pirog. If HBO says you will fight Pirog or pound sand Sergio will be fighting Pirog. The HBO checkbook has a lot of power.

it was only a big deal cause I wasn't expecting martinez to KO dzinziruk

because of the way he did it, made it a big deal. Martinez looked amazing, yet again. Just like vs Pavlik, vs Williams(2nd fight) and now this one

no they wouldn't. that scenario just happened. martinez was about to walk away from an hbo fight because they didn't approve any of his opponents and hbo came up with dzinziruk at the last moment. pirog was never considered on dibella's end. i'm sure hbo brought him up but obviously he wasn't a "big enough draw" or he didn't "bring enough money" even though both those points have been debunked already since he fought the unknown dzinziruk and hbo put up 2.4 million regardless of the opponent.

First of all I am a fan of both Cotto and Martinez but this thread really is ridiculous, I mean Dzinziruk was an undefeated guy with good movement, and gread defense, he was a guy that was supposed to give Martinez all sort of trouble and Martinez neutralized everything he had. Martinez wins over Pavlik, Williams and Dzinziruk will triumph over Cotto's recent acchievements, I mean Cotto had a good win over Foreman but come on look how Foreman looked in his last outing, so sayin and he had a good win over a really game Mayorga but people are critizicing him for not finishing him earlier which is uncalled for just like this thread is uncalled for.
