Roy Jones Jr. was the most athletically gifted fighter to ever step in a ring. His handspeed, power, agility, timing and accuracy were all top drawer stuff. He could drop a left hook or a right lead on the point of your jaw from halfway across the ring before you could even flinch. His athleticism alone was so far above and beyond that he made all the top contenders he fought look just plain silly. I've said it before, those of us who've witnessed him in his prime should count our blessings, cuz it will be a long time before someone like him comes around again.
And yeah, his skills were suspect and he stuck around for too long, but another guy named Ali was exactly the same in both regards, and you don't hear anyone saying he shouldn't be an all-time great...

That's why some people are just plain ******. Yeah he lost but he was like 35 years old or some ****. That's not that old but when you've been fighting since the Olympics it's a pretty short shelf life. Jones deserves to be mentioned among some of the greatest no doubt.
Collins did everything he could, he went to Jones Jr's press conferences and called him a coward and a yellow dog etc, he got into the ring after Jones Jr's fights and challenged him live on national TV.. this went on for three years until Collins finally gave up and called it a day because Jones Jr just would not fight him.
Collins was making a comeback a few years after he'd retired, he got into training camp with Freddie Roach again (who really believed that Collins would beat Jones Jr) and started preparing for Jones Jr.. but unfortunately Collins 'blacked out' in sparring and was rushed to hospital, so he didn't make a return afterall.
But for years in the mid-90's Jones Jr was avoiding Collins.
I don't understand how people can say something like "He wasn't great, if you take away his ______ he would've ******" Well, isn't that what made them good because of their skill in whatever it was? I hate bs people can come up with just to put someone down. Roy Jones Jr. easily in my top 5 (from all the boxing matches I've ever seen so far)

certain things you can't front on...rjjr is one of them...
roy jones...six punch combinations...with one hand
ya when you can throw six left hooks and land them all in a matter of seconds you are the ****. Roy is my fav fighter and he's easily in my top ten p4p.
Roy was one of the most physically gifted fighters of all time easily. His losses were due to him losing too much speed and agility as he was getting older. Simple as that. I've never liked him too much and still don't but in his prime he was one of the baddest ****ers on the planet.
I agree with this. But would clarify that Roy just wasn't able to get out of the way when he slowed down.
