roy jones didn't fight enough truly great fighters to be considered near the top in an all time sense, boxers can only be based on the opponents they have faced.
I wanted to give you GOOD karma for you post, but it said:
"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to paul750 again".
The truth is just like Tyson, Jones is an all time great. Both Jones and Tyson will be inducted into the boxing hall of fame...Why? Because they are great fighters. Everyone can say whatever they want but technically Roy Jones Jr. is an all time great...its just reality. Sorry if I pissed anyone off...
Everyone can have an opinion but not every opinion has truth to it. For example someone can say Michael Jordan wasn't a great basketball player because the time he played in, but is that true? NO!!!
if jones knocks tarver out or beats both tarver n johnson # 2 behind archie moore...ezzardcharles aint fight long enough at LH
Charles fought at Light Heavyweight for about six years, man. And he also had a helluva lot more fights at that weight than did/does Jones in his nine years at that weight (like twice as many).
here's a good arguement he has what 7 or 8 title in 6 different weight classes all the way from Welterweight TO Heavyweight. Name
some other fighters in the last 100 years to do that.
First of all, he got one punch KTFO'd by two guys who he was supposed to beat easily. That just doesn't happen to the greatest fighters.
Who else in your top 10 or even top 20 had that happen to him? Anybody? I bet the answer is no.
And that happened right after what many of his fans were calling his greatest performance against Ruiz.
Welterweight? Huh?
Jr. middleweight? Huh?
He never did anything at middleweight except beat a very green Hopkins for a vacant alphabet belt and move on (after one defense).
He had a good run at super-middleweight, but somehow managed to avoid most of the top 168 guys.
He seemed to hit his stride at light-heavyweight, but he never fought the lineal champion.
At heavyweight, he went after the easiest alphabet belt to grab (held by Ruiz) and then never defended.
Other fighters like Ezzard Charles moved up from middleweight to heavyweight, but unlike Jones, they actually defended their titles.
What did Jones do? He went right back down to light-heavyweight to fight the man he was accused of ducking for years, and we all know what happened there (Tarver one punch KO2 Jones, in case you don't remember).
I just don't think you can rank a guy as a top 10 all-time great boxer just because he jumped around from weight class to weight class and won a bunch of alphabet straps. I suppose you rank Oscar De La Hoya in your top 10 too.
