Those two losses stick out like sore thumbs right now, but at age 35 Ray Leonard was embarassed in a one sided loss to Terry Norris(dropped several times), and then years later was outclassed and KO'd by Hector Camacho.

That's far from the 1st thing you think about when you hear his name now days.

Guys like Jones and Leonard are cut from the same cloth to a certian extent. Brilliant in their prime with unparalelled speed and reflex, but not the same fighter when those atributes dominish.

Nothing can take away from how brilliant RJJ's prime was. He was awe inspiring to watch in top form.

I always thought Roy was a good fighter, but after watching some current boxers fight, I looked back and noticed that Roy was a GREAT fighter, a true legend. He had tremendous athleticism, handspeed and sensational reflexes. Will there be another Roy Jones? Probably not. Definately in my top 10.

Yeah he was. Someone said it before, like this: There were a lot of amazing men to step in the ring, but when Roy stepped in, it was as if he was touched by God.

He was amazing to see in his prime condition. I wish I had been more into boxing back then, rather than watching the faded Roy, and seeing old footage. The first live fight I actually saw was his last one, sadly. (Well, I saw replays of some of his other fights, because we didn't order the PPV, so I guess that counts, too. Johnson was the only one I saw live)

Skill wise I dont think NO one was better then roy In the history of boxing...You can argue and say people like Ray leonard but that was at 147 or so..Roy had that same speed At 160 all the way till he fought Ruiz at 193...He was amazing all time list on mine he would probally be 2-3 cuz i usually look at the Talent more than askin my self could he beat ALi....U kno...Roy was so great I think if he had stayed at heavy after Ruiz he would probally be undisputed Champ right now..Think about it..He beat Ruiz...Lennox Retired so I think Roy woulda had 1st dibbs at fighting for those belts...Its sad now cuz I think he has deminished only because of the wieght drain to fight Tarver..Tarver is a big boy I wish Roy woulda just said u want me so bad Meet me at heavy and fight me 4 my WBA belt but he let his pride get the best of him and it cost him dearly...

From a technical standpoint, Roid was never a good boxer.

He ignored all the basic fundamentals but got away with it because of his superhuman reflexes.

Those reflexes slowed with age and it was only a matter of time before someone took advantage.

I don't rate him that highly overall, mainly because of the question marks over some shady political dealings and hand picking of opponents.

                  Just my two cents.

I wouldn/t go THAT far. could he have been a factor at HW? yes but undisputed? no way too many Jolly Green Giants! he would have beaten Chris bird and held two of the three then he would have probably gotten stopped by Vitali. He is my favorite fighter of our time but not even he could have climbed that mountain.
