Of course HBO are going to Hype him, HBO like guys who KO fighters, Fighters with power and corrales was a fighter who they thought resemble or reminds them of Tommy hearns, Whether the hype is justified would be find out later on in his career and we did find out or didnt we?

Am sure the Lacy Hype was worst than Corrales though but for some reason Corrales name came up and he achieved more whereas Lacy done(?).

Fair enough. I agree with a lot of what you said BTW.

FWIW....This is just a topic I thought of because I'm bored right now.

in 1998 floyd beat genaro hernandez and angel manfredy 2 very good opponents and ended the year ranked #8 p4p.

then in 1999 he fought Carlos Alberto Ramon Rios, justin juuko, and carlos gerena 3 guys not even ranked in the top 10 but he moves up to #2 p4p. why would he move up so high if he's fighting bums? cause the hype machine says so!

I agree, I dont know why he was ranked so high on the back of fighting those guys, And that was only Mayweather 3 years in pro boxing.. But i doubt boxing was on the internet enough for us to question that....But that was a good question though.

I understand, Its a good topic but i think we have worst boxers who were pre-hyped and didnt even go on to do as much as what Corrales did...Jason Litzau was one fighter who was hyped a bit and i fall for the hype because i like sweet science-pure boxing etc but has he lived up to the hype? No, am sure i can go through 5 fighters in the last 5 years with a lot of hype.

Corrales was tall and had a 10-15 lbs weight advantage, but got beat like a rag doll against lil' Floyd. Mayweather was actually the betting underdog for that fight. He answered the critics and that's probably Floyd most exciting performance.

Because of that fight, guys like me criticize Floyd because we know what he can do. Can't take this win away from Floyd. People have already taken too much credit away from him.

I'm sitting here stuck..... if u don't understand it why not research it?
Corrales was a beast period, no matter the opponent. The hype came from what he had done and what he could possably do to Floyd.
Floyd waxed him, he went on to do great things which tells u rite there that he was no joke.

I'm not saying ur hating but if u know the def it sounds like it. Floyd woulda waxed him even after the hype "was" warranted. Just leave it at that

If you were not activelly following boxing back then, you cant honestly say you know what you are talking about. I my self thought Corrales was going to beat Floyd. I saw him upset Roberto Garcia on Tysons undercard. I saw his fights against Brown, Gainer, and Manfredy live on HBO and no matter what you say every one thought Corrales was dangerous. Corrales was the Marcos Maidana back then, you cant just boxrec fighters and assume ****. Just because you didnt see any belts on Manfredys boxrec does not mean he was not a formidable opponent. Go look at Miachael Katsidis's boxrec.
