For example Burner just put a list that the ring had Corrales P4P ahead of Floyd and others. But, lets focus on Floyd. Because, we might become bias if we bring up the other fighters.

At the time could you have ranked Corrales ahead of Floyd? Lets think about Corrales best wins going in. Angel Manfredy(somebody who Floyd had destroyed in two rounds) and Derrick "Smoke" Gainer. And, you know what we can throw Gary St Clair in it too.

Now lets look at Floyd wins at the time, Hernandez(lineal champ, undefeated at the weight-class) Manfreddy(before Corrales beat him and also beat him 1 round sooner than what Corrales did) Vargas, and Agustus at 135. All this were wins Floyd had going into the fight.

Looking at those resumes can you tell me how Corrales was ranked ahead of Floyd? Do you justify those rankings.

Corrales was an elite SFW at the time no doubt. And, what Corrales accomplished after proved how good of a fighter he was.

But, should he have been ranked so highly P4P? Especially ahead of Floyd and etc? Him being ranked ahead of Floyd can company was he not somewhat over hyped? That is like the Ring right now having Caballero and Donaire in the top 10. Why?

I think some of you guys are missing the point that Osiris is saying.

honestly Jrose, I give up. HBO is my God and everything they say I shall believe. If they tell me that by drinking piss and throwing stones, Marquez will beat Floyd, then I will blinding believe them.

I will never question them or anyone else again....peace

All the Floyd fans are saying is that its revisionist history. People always seem to use Floyd as their example.

Corralles was knocking heads off. I bet not you or anyone else in this thread looked at Corralles fight and didnt get hyped cmon he was a killer. Then after Floyd beats his ass after most thinking Diego would win now we question his ranking.

        Corralles was an animal man.

Id love to see a thread from you explaining why Joshua Clottey didnt deserve to be a Top 5 WW.

But I see what you mean but its nothing we can do about that. Pacquiao himself is a part of the HBO hype machine.

Corrales was the top fighter at the weight an undefeated at 33-0. Imagine any fighter at 33-0 right now still early in his career at any weight class.

Then tell me he would not be a hyped fighter.

This was the P4P List. Corralles was a monster.

              1. Shane Mosley
              2. Felix Trinidad
              3. Roy Jones Jr.
              4. Oscar De La Hoya
              5. Diego Corrales
              6. Naseem Hamed
              7. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
              8. Lennox Lewis
              9. Erik Morales
              10. Bernard Hopkins

He was ranked over Hamed, Floyd himself, Lennox, Morales and Hopkins.

Again, this isn't to take away from Corrales, because he had a great career afterwards.
If you notice, every fighter is hyped up to some extent. Who wants to see say "pac/clottey" if they told the truth about clottey?
They hyped dude to be this iron giant, the beast! So if you look at it its all just marketing, some fighters deserve it, some don't. Its a matter of oppinion to those who really know the sport, but to those that don't really follow, its a tool to get them interested.

Silly thread, Corrales had 90% of the physical advantages over Floyd. Funny that you didnt mention that Derrick Gainer DID go on to become a world champ, when you leave out pertinent information it shows biasness.

Outside of beating Manfredy, he resume looked like **** and he was beating up on bums and c-class fighters. Who wouldn't look good going against opponents like that?

                    Best wins prior to Floyd:

                    Angel Manfredy
                    - a fighter who has never won a world title in his entire career.

Derrick Gainer- zab judah is taking his career more serious right now that Gainer was back then (which tells you all you need to know about him at that point).

BTW this has nothing to do with Floyd but everything to do with all the Hype Corrales was getting. Floyd win was very dominate and he did what he had to do, but Corrales IMO was very overated at that time.
Do you realize Corrales had already had a title and defended it 4 times at 130 before he fought Floyd?

You've got to be kidding. Roberto Garcia was a respected champ and Corrales' performance against him is what first turned heads. After a slow start, he bludgeoned him. Angel Manfredy and Derrick Gainer were two top notch, prime contenders that he KO'ed early. And viciously. Corrales was a young, prime undefeated champ with solid names on his credentials. Coupled with how he looked in winning, he was rightfully considered an elite pound for pounder. The bad loss to Floyd is almost an anomaly.
