he was just another jeff lacy when floyd fought him. big powerful guy who was easy to outbox. unlike lacy he actually had a good career after his first loss although he lost all 3 casamayor fights not sure how he got the decision in the 2nd fight.
The "Myth" that Corrales was some monster before he fought Floyd

Does wins have nothing to do with the hype he was getting prior to him fighitng Floyd
What does betting favorite have to do with anything. People can be swayed by media hype (which is what HBO was doing)
I'm just curious as to what wins made him a monster at 130. Only thing I can think of (which HBO keep pointing out) was a win over Manfredy. The thing is Manfredy has never won a world title and was dominated each and every time he stepped up to world class competition.
problem with you is your'e obviously a boxrec warrior. a kid i'm sure probably 20 years old never saw any of these fights, never saw the atmosphere and the fighters and how they were perceived back then. I myself have been watching floyd since the late 1990's and remember clearly the atmosphere around corrales.
See the problem is when you are a boxrec warrior, you don't know the particulars of each fight. You just click on boxrec and see the outcomes and the names of the fighters and think you know everything about what went down but you don't. You don't know how badly corrales outweighed him and all his opopnents for example, you don't know how devastating his punch was considered. For example I doubt you know that Floyd's first fight against Castillo is not considered that big of a deal because simply that it was castillo but because (and you wouldn't know this because you only know fights through boxrec) the fact that Castillo was a champ at the weight class and floyd was moving up for his first fight there, was a underdog and was outweighed by 10lbs on fightnight and still managed to dominate and upset Castillo. See, little tidbits like this you would never have known because you weren't around and know only the shallow outcomes and dates from boxrec...so you really don't know **** in the end.Comment

Corrales was very limited. He did have real good power however. When he first fought for a world title against Robert "Grandpa" Garcia, Garcia was outboxing him so badly when he returned to his corner, Garcia asked his trainer, "do you want me to knock him out" . It was a big mistake because if he went on boxing he would have possibly won a onesided decision. But he got into the trenches with Corrales and got stopped. But Corrales was a limited slow boxer, it was his heart and power that made the late fighter so popular.Last edited by TBear; 04-16-2010, 09:00 PM.Comment

Instead of typing all of that, why don't you bring up a win that justified the hype corrales got. I mean all you gotta do is just post one name and explain why that win warranted the hype.
You can't, that's why you resort to flaming.Comment

I was knee deep into boxing back then, but why don't you answer my question, Mr. Boxing Scholar, and post a win that warrented the hype. I say this because since "I don't know **** about boxing", maybe you can enlighten me on this subject.Comment

How was Margarito a monster before he fought Cotto? His best win was against Cintron...
And its really about what Corrales did after he lost to Floyd...its a solid win on Floyd's resume...especially when the fight wasn't competitive at all...Comment

Fighters live on hype, Fans live on hype, Boxing lives on hype.. The mark of a fighter after defeat is what they do after that and after losing to Mayweather corrales went on to win belts, Big fights and made a better name for himself, And the Mayweather that fought corrales then was a green one too.
Fighters are not only judge on what they did but after a fight, Prince Naz after lossing to Barrera went on to fight once and retire which tells us Naz was done before he even fought Barrera...If Cotto goes on and beat good fighters in the next two years it would make Pacquiao's win over him even better because people cant turn around and say **** but what did morales do after Pacqauio beat him? Hatton? De la Hoya? which all tells me they were almost done or done by the time they face Pacquiao..Comment

Has nothing to do with Floyd. I already gave him props by saying he did what he had to do and looked dominated. This is about the hype he was getting prior to that.
I bring this up because too many times we take what HBO says as the gospel truth. I'm just the type that questions everything, and not blinding believe **** just because someone says so.Comment
