People tend to forget that prime Oscar was a bad mofo. Anything under 160 and Oscar ghouls Canelo......

This would've been a good clash. 154 De La Hoya wins. 159 Canelo W.

I think that Oscar wins at 147-154 by UD/MD due to his experience and superior athleticism, both have proven to have a solid chin and a good ability to recover if they get caught, watching De La Hoya performances with Quartey, Vargas, Trinidad, and Mosley (rematch) in their prime. Am I just not sure what Canelo outperforms him in. If De La Hoya wanted to, he could outbox him or outwork him. He wasn't a defensive fighter like Mayweather or Whitaker, but he sure could box like Lara if he wanted. He was also switch hitter that threw a lot punches per round, with blistering handspeed comparable to Floyd Mayweather. He also had a impressive jab like Golovkin, A declined Cotto who had stipulations (I think) and Trout went the distance, so why not Oscar who fought a lot of power punchers in their prime.

Canelo's at 160 however displayed improvements in being able to cut the ring better after fighting Lara (who I believe just didn't throw enough at the risk of getting hit in the body), and head movement in his fights with GGG/Jacobs, I think Canelo's bigger frame might prove too durable for a declined De La Hoya and his improved defense (with experience) might neutralize his output to an extent until he either catches him with a big shot, outworking De La Hoya in the process while he is stunned/worn down like he was against Mosley in the first fight or let Oscar gas himself out. Heck Alvarez might land a body shot similar to Hopkin's. I think he hurt GGG in the body as part of his gameplan in the rematch in multiple occasions to slow down his opponent's pressure.

Alvarez at 168 against De La Hoya would be performance similar to Canelo vs Charlo.

Canelo would’ve lost to a lot of the great fighters of the last 20 years as would most of todays fighters would
I was mildly disagreeing with but respecting your POV, and then you went ahead and called GGG a bum. I don't even remember what the topic is. I should ban you for insolence.

Not to mention he gave one of the best 154 pounder ever in Trinidad, the fight of his life to that point. Trinidad would’ve massacred canelo at 154. What are Canelo’s best wins at 154? Trout? Baldomir? Cintron? 40 yr old Mosley or Beefy Smith? I think Vargas is a better 154 pounder than canelo was and the version of Oscar that beat Vargas beats any version of canelo that fought at 154.
            Watch those fights back.

            1. Yory Boy Campas was a tough, TV-friendly fighter (I was a fan), but he was a mid-2nd tier guy at best. He could never be regarded as an elite fighter in his era. He had an impressive career in terms of longevity and the names he fought, but he lost virtually all of his marquee fights (and many other not-so-marquee fights). He was very much a Black & Decker version Julio Cesar Chavez.

            2. Vargas got the win over Winky, OFFICIALLY, but go check that fight out again and tell me who you think won.

            3. Quartey is Vargas' main claim to fame (that and showing guts against Tito). It was a solid win worthy of respect, but nobody is thinking about making a Legendary Nights film about it. Today, El Feroz is a popular, self-styled OG pandillero, but his legend is vastly overstated.

I think Canelo is more than competitive with prime ODLH and Trinidad. In fact, I think he beats both at 154lbs. Given the styles, I think he struggles more with ODLH than Tito.

              1. I didn’t say Campas was some atg but Vargas was 20 yrs old when he beat him for a belt. Significantly better than how canelo got his 154 pound title at 20 which was by beating a welterweight Matthew Hatton at 150 pound catchweight.
              2. I saw that fight with Vargas and winky and think Vargas edged it. Canelo has received judges scorecards significantly more questionable than that one.
              3. Quartey is better than anyone canelo beat at 154. Canelo would get outboxed soundly by Oscar at 154 and would have no shot vs Trinidad. Trinidad’s effective aggression would overwhelm canelo who only fights in spurts. Trinidad had trouble with foot movement, something canelo lacks and Canelo’s poor stamina, especially at 154 would’ve been his demise. Canelo’s run at 154 was mediocre at best.

Okay, but I already told you that Canelo beats them both.

To me Canelo. ODLH had a tendency to just throw punches out there. Canelo would slip them & land a few hard shots & that would be that.
