He's not a God, I just think his style and confidence is exactly what Jones doesn't like. Jones needs to look flashy. Joe would never allow him to do that and never allow himself to be bullied by Roy.

Reed, I don't have heroes. You might not be able to relate to what I'm saying because you're such a keen fan of Roy Jones, and it's fair enough -- I like the fact that you're a superfan -- but I can't relate to it.
How much confidence does this sound like?

“I could probably give Jones a tough fight, probably the best fight he’s ever had,” said Calzaghe. “But I know my capabilities and unless I got paid the crown ***els I wouldn’t want to risk it.”-Joe Calzaghe

He was that confident over a 40 year old Roy who had been starched twice and beat C level opposition for 5 years.... not a 90's Roy who was basically undefeated himself, and ripping through everyone he faced.

Joe himself was a fan and in awe of Roy.

Im not basing this off me being a "superfan", Im basing this off the fights themselves, and the PRIME styles.

"I'm a big Roy Jones fan and to be honest, he's the only guy in the world that I really don't want to fight. He seems to be the perfect fighter and you just can't hit the guy. Look at what Jones did to Richard Hall who then fights Dariuz Michaelczweski and bashes him up for 11 rounds. I like to watch Jones fight and see his moves. He carries an aura that he takes into the ring with him. It's 100 percent confidence and he knows he's going to win."

      -Joe Calzaghe (June 2003)

      Yeah confident...

Prime for Prime, Roy beats Calz. If an old 40 year old roy knocked calz down and hurt him, a prime Roy would finish him after that. Joe had never fought anybody with that kind of handspeed and athleticism. I'd say Roy stops him in the 1st half of the fight.

calzaghe is just that good. too bad he's under appreciated, like floyd is by the haters. two great boxers victims of their own greatness.
Please dont compare Calzaghe to Mayweather! Joe earned his respect for acting like a champion as well as fighting like one. Floyd acts like a 10year old, has an ego the size of africa, and has a very defensive boxing style, thats why people dont appreciate him. I hate him as much as most haters but I still accept he's a world class boxer.

Great thread by the way guys! Glad to see some Calzaghe appreciation from proper boxing fans and not some ignorant twonks abusing him as usual. I remember watchin this fight, almost had to turn it off i was so embarassed for Jones.

lol, that was a pretty good schooling. but lets think about it, if calz was knocked down by jones wrist, and a light punch by hopkins, what would they have done to calz in their primes?

you discredit Hopkins and Jones best wins due to weight, etc but you give Calzaghe full credit for beating Hopkins and Jones.

I admit, the Hopkins win was a good win for Joe because even though Hopkins was no longer at his best, he was still a very good fighter.

Jones on the other hand was clearly past his prime when Joe beat him though and he doesn't deserve alot of credit for that W.

I didn't say the Jones win was Joe's best win. It was merely another scalp that enrichened Joe's collection.
