  • Why do so many consider super champions the champ but not franchise champ?

The Wbc lists the franchise champ as higher than the world champ in their rankings, shouldn't that be enough for them to be considered the same thing as a so called"super champ" like Bud or the Wba super champs?

So how is Buds belt different from Wbc franchise champ that was started as a way for Wbc to let the best fight the best( possibly in different divisions even) while the #1 contender doesn't cry about it & can't sue because they are then gifted a world champ belt instead. (So iow it has same special privileges Wbo provides Bud,for same reason because he has won multiple titles)

The Super champ designation allows Bud to avoid mandatories every 9 mos as required by" world" champs like Andrade. (up to several yrs) the Wba also has World champs & super champs.

The franchise belt Canelo was given still shows him being ranked above Charlo at mw to this day,& despite Canelo Undisputed smw he still isn't listed as franchise champ at smw, implying he doesn't take the belt with him to every division he fights in, just like only some divisions have super champs.

The SUPER WORLD CHAMPION CATEGORY OR UNDISPUTED WORLD CHAMPION was created for those World Champions who hold the title of two or more organizations recognized by the WBA, like the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

The creation of the category of SUPER WORLD CHAMPIONS or UNDISPUTED WORLD CHAMPIONS was born from a suggestion sent to us by Lennox Lewis, World Boxing Association former Heavyweight Champion, which we have considered convenient in order to give the Unified Champions a more flexible time to defend their titles as well as the challengers the chance to fight for the title.

    PROPOSED REGULATION

We are still working to set the regulation that shall rule the SUPER WORLD CHAMPIONS, and we have considered it convenient to establish the following:

The SUPER CHAMPIONS will be obliged to make the mandatory defense of their titles in a period no longer than 18 months against the boxer recognized as the World Boxing Association Champion of the corresponding division.

In the intermediate period between the mandatory defenses, the UNDISPUTED SUPER CHAMPION will be able to defend his title against any recognized opponent chosen from the official ratings list of the WBA or from the organizations it recognizes and with the approval of those organizations.

The WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO will coordinate whenever necessary their respective ratings, to minimize any incompatibility in them for the Unified Titles, thus easing the optional fights of the UNIFIED SUPER CHAMPIONS.

In those cases of controversies that make difficult the selection of the mandatory contender to fight with the SUPER CHAMPION, the organizations will be able to order mandatory fights (Box-off suggested by Lennox Lewis) to determine the mandatory contender –previously agreed-. In those cases when they do not reach an agreement to make the mandatory fight as it is stated in point ‘a’ and ‘b’ previously stated in this provisional regulation, the Purse Bid Procedure will be ordered.

Thanks for at least replying, all I see is Haney/Charlo fans complaining about franchise champ supposedly not being real champ, but those same ppl consider super champs the real champ. Does not compute

They are almost the same thing

They're both ridiculous. I can only understand an interim champion under unique circumstances, but world champion should really he just one. If the organizations want to give unified champions more flexibility to defend against mandatory they can extend the timeliness to defend their titles without creating other "regular" titles. At that point they're just glorified number 1 contenders.

These sanctioning bodies need to spell things out in plain English so even boxing fans can understand. If they don't, all their rulings seem arbitrary and self serving, which they are.

Part of it is how badly it was handled and how Suliaman left people confused with comments he's made. Also, Loma won a vacant WBC belt and was made franchise not long after, then lost his next fight, making the idea of giving him a special belt seem worse. Canelo had been WBC champ for a while, but he was made franchise shortly before leaving 160, so it's not like people got used to him fighting for the belt for long enough for it to mean anything.

The WBA is a joke but they're very clear about the hierarchy of their titles.

                  For them there's
                  WBA (Super) Champion
                  WBA Champion
WBA (Regular) Champion (only applies when a Super champion is active)
                  WBA (Interim) Chaampion

There's no confusion on their part who the top WBA champion is. If there's a Super champion, they're the top champion. If not, the WBA Champion is. Simple.

The WBC are the ones that simultaneously call Haney and Kambosos their top champion. The WBA isn't pretending Trevor Bryan's title is as important as Oleksandr Usyk's.

While I agree with the majority of your post, this portion is false. Once "Franchise" became a world championship, Canelo was removed. He's not listed as Franchise champion at any weight: https://wbcboxing.com/mailing/2021/r...EMBER_2021.pdf
