Toney was also in there with a former multi-division UFC champ, nowhere near a regional-level can like Shields fought. He obviously cashed out though, regardless ... tapped quick and cashed a check.

You actually see that fairly often. The girl had a piss-poor attempt at an arm-bar which failed immediately.

Boxing rewards the fastest reflexes, coordination, stamina more than MMA. Elite boxers are better athletes than elite MMA fighters. Shields looks like a better athlete than anyone else in the women's MMA game right now. Just needs time, that was a very close call.

She has finally found some fighters she might be able to stop.

That was more her opponent being ****ing awful than anything she consciously did to escape it. Giving up mount to go for an armbar in the first place is pretty dumb, and Elkin applied it terribly, both her legs are above Claressas shoulders ffs, meaning far less leverage and control. Then having slowed it down and watched it multiple times it just looks like Elkin lets go of the arm lol. Like theres no real technical reason why Shields should have gotten out of that by her own volition, she puts her forearm behind Elkins knee to create space but that alone shouldnt get you out of an armbar normally.

I dont think it was fixed or anything, but Elkin was just really really ****ing bad. How that chick is supposed to be a brown belt I dont know.

I agree; Who was also old and well past his prime too. Regardless, you are right though. It was a cash out fight for James Toney who didn't even bother to train or win.

Different kinds of athletes. Boxing does require more speed and reflexes but MMA requires more strength because of the grappling. And grappling, kicks etc drains the tank much quicker than punching. Coordination is arguable because kicks are a much more complex movement than punches.

True. MMA fighters look like they could bench press, squat more than boxers. There's not that many stocky boxers, a lot of stocky MMA fighters.
