Mayweather did not ask De La Hoya to come in below the Jnr Middleweight limit. That example you gave undermines the point you're trying to make. Mayweather beat De La Hoya when DLH was able to fight at his best weight. That's why it deserved to be for a title and why this one doesn't.

Exactly - if the title is on the line, the limit should be 147. They can weigh whatever they like up to the limit, but if they set a lower limit then it shouldn't be a title fight.

        Well put. ........

Which is common sense, only a Pac man woudl argue otherwise.

I agree, major props to Cotto for taking this stand.

It`s like poker. I figure this is just a temporary stand, considering that Pacquiao hasn`t signed any contracts yet. We shall see if pac doesn`t sign and cotto maintains that stand.

It's been done before but only because both fighters agreed to it those times - the sanctioning bodies can't force a fighter put his title on the line if it's a catchweight fight. And it was bull**** every time it happened in the past. Just because bad things have happened in the past, that isn't a reason why they should happen again. Cotto deserves major props for taking this stand. And as for knowing the WBO rules better than the WBO, their rules are published on the web, and prsi has linked to them several times - why don't you try reading them?

You're missing the point. It's bull**** to call yourself the world Welterweight Champion if you don't think you can beat any top Welterweights at their own weight.

                  • Cotto is rightly sticking to his guns. I think it's more Freddie than Manny making a deal out of this. Freddie Roach is a ****ing *******, great trainer but he comes off looking more of a **** every time pac fights or negotiates

Every time? I don't recall any ***** moves by Roach in any of Manny's previous fights. And in any case, you and I have no idea whether it's really Roach, or whether it's Pac's other advisers, or whether it's primarily the WBO themselves, who are really to blame for this.

I doubt Roach is the main culprit because he is rarely involved in the negotiations, and the article says: "Pacquiao's lawyer Franklin Gacal tried to shift the blame on Top Rank's Bob Arum for announcing the fight before Manny and his team had a chance to review the official contract." That implies to me that it's probably Pac's lawyer and his other advisers more than Roach who are really behind this.
