im not a cotto fan, but there is no way he should have to put the belt on the line for a catch-weight fight. i think roach is just looking for an out, so they can set up a fight between FM and Pac. FM has already said that he would pay JMM step aside money to fight Pac. he's just waiting on Roach to bite.

I do agree with you but even Cotto taking the short side of the Pac fight he still would make more money than any other fighter at this moment. Pac is huge in Asia and around the world. He has won impressively Cotto has looked beatable and is why the Pac camp wants the fight.

I'm really starting to get irritated with Freddie Roach. And I'm a fan of Roach, Pacquiao, and Cotto. Seriously, "Pacquiao doesn't need Cotto without the title"? Then I fully agree with Cotto. Fight him at 147.

            Right.

And we will see how much of a draw Floyd truly is when he fights Marquez.

I don't think the PPV sales and gate will be anywhere near what people expect it to be. Especially with UFC 103 falling on that same Saturday.

The UFC is one a tear right now with PPV sales.

I understand that MP's quest is about legacy and rightfully so. I make no judgement, legacy is a valid goal especially since he's willing to meet a strong opponent like Cotto.

The WBO sanctioning fee imposed on Cotto (according to other articles) can be as high as $400,000 while Manny's portion as challenger would be $150,000. My thought is that Cotto is making a smart bargaining move in renegotiating the catch-weight for the title. The possible solution, if the WBO was so inclined, could be to strip Cotto of the title and announce that the vacated title is on the line and to be awarded to the winner. That would (presumably) result in the lesser sanction fees to both parties and resolve the legacy/fees/catch-weight dilemna. I doubt that the WBO would want to set that type of precedent though.

I think it's a bold move on Cotto's part but hope that it doesn't backfire.

With respects to Cotto's (reported) 35% cut; he'll still realize more in this one fight than he has to date on any past fight and/or potenially more than any future fights.

Personally I think, given the fact that he's the champion he deserves more than 35% and that may factor into any renegotiations.

Perhaps an increase cut of the proceeds would incent Cotto to put the belt on the line and allow Manny to keep the catch-weight at 145.

For those who claim that 145 is still WW; I agree. The weight limit is based on the uppermost limit which makes 141 to 147 well within the realm of WW championship contention.

My hope is that this fight still goes on in Nov.

What I'm saying is, Pacquiao is the biggest fight in boxing for any fighter under 147 pounds. Point plank, period.

You will see this when the Mayweather-Marquez fight tanks, and they end up selling way less than stellare PPV numbers.

I'm a Cotto fan, but these negotiations are a battle that he cannot win. If he somehow doesn't get this fight, he just lost the biggest fight and payday of his career.
