Clottey was 170 against Corrales. Collazo was 155 and Berto was 160 in their last fight. I remember seeing a pic where Cotto weighed 159 and Paul is 160+++, same goes for Margarito.
Floyd Mayweather is the ONLY WW who comes in at 147-148Comment

Marquez has been physically dominated at Lightweight, relying on his skills to win against men who looked bigger and stronger than him. He only moved up to Lightweight to chase Pac, and doesn't look like a natural Lightweight.
Mayweather physically dominated Hatton, which no other fighter has been able to do. But if he's not a natural Welter, and I don't believe he is, then he should fight at a lower weight, when fighting fighters from lower weight classes.Last edited by Dave Rado; 04-13-2009, 07:37 PM.Comment

Crazy... The hardest thing to do is take off muscle mass. Ask Roy Jones. When Floyd Mayweather fought Oscar at jr. middleweight he still came into the ring weighing about as much as a welterweight. In the post fight interview he even said 'you just saw a welterweight beat a 154 lb. fighter'.
Now, I know Floyd has almost no body fat, is a gym rat, and probably walks around at a solid 147-150; but that's all muscle. He's a small guy at welterweight.
Floyd has always claimed to be legend. His fans have always entertained the idea, and anyone who has seen me posts know I like Floyd- but anyone who doesn't think he'd easily make 140, I think, it crazy.
Floyd couldn't get up to true junior middleweight size to fight Oscar. His body is already all muscle. Look at his frame now vs. say, the Gatti fight. He's more defined. More muscular; but he was already matured at the point he was fighting at jr. welterweight.
Point being, Floyd would just focus on speed training, stop lifting to be as muscular, and let his frame melt down a bit.
I see him being more effective even at 140.
Call me crazy.Comment

this could be a great fight at 140 and thats exactly what pbf doesnt want. i dont think the speed and quickness of pbf would be too big a deal as jmm has dealt with pac twice, BUT, the size would probably be too much at 147.Comment

Mayweather has never been 150 by fight night for any fight. Even in the DLH fight he was 148 the day of the fight.Comment

The thing with Mayweather that people don't give him credit for is that he is a tough kid. And stronger than you think. I know that he gets called ***** and phag, etc on the boards. But he grew up fighting bigger guys in the gym every day. Did you ever read about how he would regularly spar with older, bigger amateurs and pros when he was 13?
The reality is that you don't make it out of Michigan gyms being a sissy. You can't do it on skills alone.
And that is what Hatton underestimated:
But Hatton knows just how difficult it will be to defeat the Pretty Boy. "He's got amazing skills," Hatton admitted. "He's pound-for-pound the best in the world, he's great to watch, skilful, lightning fast, I always watch his fights. But I don't think he's the biggest fighter in the world. I don't think he's got much physical strength. When I went to see him fight Gatti, I saw him at the weigh-in and asked myself the question whether or not he was big enough or tough enough to hold me off for 12 rounds. And that'll be the big question once the fight comes along."
