Why do some people hate Joe Calzaghe?

No the difference between Calzaghe and Benn is that Benn had 4-5 really good fighters at his weight class over a period of 3-4 years that he made his reputation on and Joe had Ottke. It's a situation he can't win, because it's true.
It's the difference between him and a Nigel Benn.Comment

Joe could have made those big fights years ago.It may have meant he lost his 0 losses record, but which real boxing fan gives a **** about that? I think the potential for real greatness was there, but after the damage to his hands, boxing became a strictly business proposition-which I can understand. However, from the perspective of a fan it does seriously detract from my enjoyment of his career.

Counter, you're being pretty hypocritical here.So along comes a guy named Jeff Lacy, and all of a sudden all the Americans are on the band wagon of how Lacy is going to destroy Calzaghe and prove that all the bull**** they've been talking is true. They hype this guy up as if he's the reincarnation of Mike Tyson, due to their biased boxing media he's talked of as being a top 10 p4p fighter and all this other stuff. So then, Calzaghe ****s him and all of a sudden the Americans make an about turn and decide that Lacy was a talentless bum, and Calzaghe didn't prove anything by beating him.
You criticise Americans for hyping one of their own against a foreign fighters, and then calling him a bum after he lost.
But you were one of those who gave Hatton a good chance against beating Mayweather. Then after he lost you made a thread called 'Ricky Hatton is a bum'.
And Hatton has a much better record than Lacy at the moment.
The thing about Lacy is that, on reflection, he wasn't that good. Fair enough, a lot of people didn't see that at the time, but now that they do, you can't blame them for pointing it out.
People's opinions change all the time. Ultimately we'll know how much credit the win over Lacy deserves after Lacy fights J Taylor.Comment

And who would have fought him?Drop a few pounds or put some pounds on and you can move to another weight division.
He had no reputation outside the Uk until the Lacy fight, thats the first time any of the P4Peven looked in his direction.Comment

I hadn't realised that Joe hadn't moved out of the Super-Middleweight division, all his career, as a matter of principle.(apart from against old man Hopkins of course.)
Much respect to him!
Roy Jones Jnr,in his career, moved from Middleweight to Heavyweight and won titles at middleweight,Super Middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.Calzaghe clearly didn't need to perform these stunts to show his greatness.
BTW what big names refused to fight Calzaghe at Super-Middleweight ?Comment
