      Is that really his nickname?

If so, then less credit to you for coming up with it.

I think some of the reasons are

        * Boxing fans are used to someone building up a reputation slowly. A guy is a prospect, then a champ, then establishes himself with defences, then maybe unification, and around this time people are talking about him being on the P4P list. A good example of this is Dawson, who, having just beaten the next best champion in his division, is borderline top 10 in most people's eyes.

With Calzaghe it's a bit different. To a lot of people, he seemed to suddenly skip to being a P4P guy overnight. Ok, he beat Lacy and Kessler, but are those guys as well known as Tarver? No. So that leaves the casual fans a bit puzzled by how highly Calzaghe is regarded.

Are Lacy and Kessler better than the Tarver of 2008? Many would say no, which explains the skeptics among the hardcore fans.

Another thing is that the fight where he was supposed to answer all the questions about him (vs Hopkins) didn't answer that many questions, because it was an unimpressive performance and a disputed decision.

*Fighting style. It isn't pretty and it isn't impressive to the casual fans, or to many hardcore fans either.

Calzaghe fought Manfredo because he was the most well know B/C level fighter in the division. The plan is that you look spectacular because the guy is nowhere near as good as you, but the casual fans don't dismiss it out of hand because the guy has a minor claim to fame from The Contender. Pretty much like Cotto vs Gomez. The difference is that Cotto destroyed Gomez and looked fantastic, whereas Calzaghe...well, you know...it wasn't that good, was it?

*The fans on here who only post to defend Calzaghe or UK fighters. It annoys people. A lot of posters who aren't that interested in Calzaghe are tired of going to NSB and seeing the same stuff every day. Some pro-Calzaghe threads, some anti-Calzaghe threads, but most of them descending into silly arguments that people find annoying.

*The feeling that Calzaghe was content to just be a WBO belt holder for the prime of his career. Look at Wright-Mosley I. Mosley was offered $12M to fight someone he had already beaten twice. He instead took $3-4M to fight Winky. For his part, Wright accepted a much smaller paycheck ($800,000) in order to make the fight. Why? Because that's what you have to do sometimes in order to achieve as much as possible.

Whatever people say, Calzaghe could've fought someone like Virgil Hill in America. He might have taken a short-term pay cut, but if he had won, it would've paid off, just like it did for Winky Wright.

Winky is a boxer who fought in The US, Africa, South America, France, Luxembourg and the UK. That's what you do when you're desperate to prove that you're the best. Calzaghe did not do that.

He is not American, hasnt fought the best guys he could have (biggest Mayweather beef as well) and he is a White Welsh guy. These reasons are why some dont like him. That and that he is fighting the best guys once they are old. It might look like he waited for Hopkins and Roy to get old before he fought them, so it looks like Cherry picking. All of that said, I like Joe.

Should have made the poll multiple choice, because it's for a number of reasons why some people don't like him.
