Jones has as much chance of beating Calz as Judah had of beating Clottey

I think you underrate him massively. His boxing lesson from Hopkins amounted to what? Being hit a few times with counter rights? Hardly a boxing lesson, more an inevitable consequence of an aggressive lefty taking on a counterpunching righty.
As for whether he looked terrible against Bika and Reid I don't see what it has to do with it. Reid was years ago and Bika was a fouling, spoiling brawler, nothing like Dawson. In Calzaghe's other recent fights with equally dissimilar opponents Lacy and Kessler he looked great, which is surely equally pertinent.Comment

Another thing that should be considered is the fact that Dawson has the better experience against southpaws. He has fought about 6 while the ones that Calzaghe has faced were talentless and it was earlier in his career. Dawson wasn't confused at all against tricky southpaws like Eric Haring( who top 10 at light heavyweight at the time) and Ian Gardner, he actually fought brilliantly. How would Calzaghe react?Comment

how can calzaghe go down to Roy's level even though Roy's shot he is still at a higher level then calzagheJones has as much chance of beating Calz as Judah had of beating Clottey none what so ever these people saying he will KO Calzaghe are hilarious incase you have'nt noticed Calzaghe takes a pretty good shot also Jones last KO was way back in 2002 against Clinton Woods
so WTF
i also dont see him getting a decision either cause of his poor stamina this is a sure fire victory as you can get IMO same as the Judah v Clottey fight
unless Calzaghe has detiriorated to the level Jones is at now then i only see one winner and it aint Roy im afraidComment

Could be an advantage for Dawson, though I suspect Calzaghe's all around superior experience would help him, he is after all one of the best tactical boxers in the game.Another thing that should be considered is the fact that Dawson has the better experience against southpaws. I wouldn't rate Calzaghe as the better tactical boxer. Dawson is a good situational fighter and knows when to take risks and place his punches accurately. Joe would have a problem with Dawson on the outside, certainly with his disadvantages in reach and height. Dawson is also tighter in his technique and a great counter puncher and Hopkins completely expose Joe's vulnerability to straight counters. I can't see him getting anything going there and i also can't see him backing Dawson against the ropes, something that has never happened before. Dawson is also better on the inside ect. The odds are kind of stack against him here.A lot of that is quite superficial though, what Dawson lacks, and that Calzaghe has in spades is the ability to put it all together the right way in the ring. Calzaghe is the far superior tactical boxer, better footwork and positioning, better control of distance etc. We both know Dawson would have a hell of a job on his hands once Calzaghe worked out how to negate Dawson's game. For me the whole fight would come down basically to whether or not Dawson's natural advantages were such that he could keep doing what he wants to do even once Calzaghe has worked out how to stop him.Last edited by slicksouthpaw16; 09-11-2008, 09:18 PM.Comment

What kind of higher level is this? One where Anthony Hanshaw, Prince Badi Ajamu and Felix Trinidad are tougher opponents than Mikkel Kessler and Bernard Hopkins and having no titles of any kind is better than being Ring Champ of two weight divisions?
I'd like to visit that level, I think I might be a very good boxer there.Comment

im pointing out that less skilled fighters with much less adavantages than Dawson have given him trouble and Hopkins would of beaten him had he not been 43Comment

Joe clearly defeated prime Robin Reid.
Calzaghe was dominating Bika, until Sakio smashed him in the face with a massive deliberate head butt that almost knocked Joe out.Comment

Calzaghe is probably the best tactical boxer boxing today, you must have noticed his habit of taking away his opponents best weapons. I think comparing Dawson to Calzaghe in this regard is stretching it more than a bit.I wouldn't rate Calzaghe as the better tactical boxer. Dawson is a good situational fighter and knows when to take risks and place his punches accurately.
