Jones has as much chance of beating Calz as Judah had of beating Clottey

I like his hand speed. I also think its pretty incredible that hes still undefeated and hes 36 years old.Comment

You're one of the few who realises that Joe is old! His handspeed is very good for a SMW, but its starting to fall off now. Joe's best attribute is his boxing brain, he always works out what his opponent wants to do and stops them doing it, he's like Hopkins in that regard. He's different though because he does it by stifling them with his own attack, whereas Hop is more defensive.
Anyhows, nice talking with you and we can pick this up another time, but its 6am here, I stayed up to watch tonights fights, and now I need sleep!Comment

What boxing community are you referring to exactly? There is more to boxing than North America. Opinions can fluctuate from continent to continent. To be honest I think they have a more complete view of the boxing community than we do. HBO and Showtime only show so many fights and most of them are localized to the United States. Klitschko is the only exception. They can see all the major bouts that happen in the US and around Euroupe while we can't, unless it is streamed. Lets not call one group of fans less knowledgeable than the other when we have the reputation for discrediting a fighter based on nationality.
In and around Britain Calzaghe is celebrated and respected, just because the US doesn't show it's appreciation does not mean he isn't being recognized. No one should mention Lacy as a lackluster opponent considering the hype that surrounded him. Jeff may not be the best fighter but Joe shoud recieve his credit for exposing the media outlets as well as the fighter himself. A one sided beating like that only happens rarely. Bernard did drop Calzaghe in the first but he got up to win the fight by out hustling the hustler. In boxng anybody can go down in any round, it isn't a ig deal. Why mention Kesslers choice of opponent when he has a valid reason for fighting them? Hausler is his mandatory and Sartison was for a belt. He has expressed intrest in fighting Pavlik and to be seen on HBO again.Calzaghe is respected but definitely not celebrated and that is because his best wins are not against impressive competition. Whether you like it or not--Lacy looked like complete garbage against a journeyman, 43 year old B-Hop dropped him in the 1st and exposed his weak offense all the way to a SD, and Mikkel Kessler is more concerned with the Hausslers and Sartisons of the world to even count.
When else could he of fought Roy Jones? Now Calzaghe wants to take on RJJ who is well past his prime?
What boxing community are you referring to?As stout Calzaghe fans, I understand, you are behind him no matter what and are easily impressed with everything he does--but the boxing community is not so easily swayed.
Hype and the lack of knowledge about Joe Calzaghe made the odds shift in Lacy's favor.Again, why would Lacy have held odds over Calzaghe?
That saying needs to go because most of the fighters in the U.S don't leave their own backyard and use the "mecca of boxing" excuse. As of now Euroupe is doing better than us in boxing achievements so let them make money in their homeland while the overprotected American bums fight nobodies and cab drivers. Calzaghe has earned hi career like any other boxer so stop talking nonsense.Because the world saw him as a protected European champion who climbed out of obscurity in his mid-30's only to take on shot American HOF'ers that earned every inch of their career.
With that said:
RJJ W Calzaghe.
.[/QUOTE]Good luck you British *******s
The only ******* I see is the one I am responding to
Do you honestly believe this nonsense?Last edited by ALT-Assassin; 09-14-2008, 12:12 AM.Comment
