    Not necessarily.

Oscar didn't sell out his last live gate, and I don't think vargas/mayorga sold out Staples.

It is viewed as a bit of a pain in the ass to attend live events in some of these cities. It's easy in vegas because you just walk up the Strip.

But I rarely go to American football or basketball games. Or even boxing matches anymore. I have a projection screen and TiVo. Maybe I've just become lazy.

But you look at the baldomir fight, for example:

10K at the gate. Say that is 5 million or so.
    350K PPV buys @ $50 each. ...that's 17 mil.

That is why somebody like Floyd doesn't care about selling the "cheap seats"... those last 3,000 or so in the nosebleed section.

Did you notice how shocked the American media was about the rabid passion for Ricky Hatton? They don't feel that way about any of their athletes. If Oscar fought in London, I GUARANTEE you that 30,000 fans would not fly to england for a week.

Tyson has fought overseas. At the height of his popularity...Americans did not travel to see him. They are not spending five grand for that.

You have to remember, the purses that Cotto is getting NOW, is less than what Floyd was getting EARLY in his career.

PBF was lucky. He was being paid based on ability, and not his commercial draw. He was getting 4 mil to fight guys like Corley and Sharmba on free HBO. Arum did a good job for Floyd with that HBO contract.
Cotto is a 7 year pro and has headlined 4 PPVs
Mayweather is a 11 year pro and has headlined 5 PPVs....

At Floyd's seventh year he had never even headlined a PPV... how about those apples?

at this point in Mayweather's career he was fighting Sosa, Ndou, Corley, Bruseles and none of those were PPV. ALso, in none of those fights did PBF make more than Cotto has in his last several fights.

So, you are saying that mayweather can't sell out MGM because he didn't sell it out EIGHT YEARS ago? Um, OK. Thanks.

What was the attendance for mayweather-Judah at Thomas & mack? With zab coming off a loss. Remind me.

Up to (an equivalent) point in mayweather's career, he had made MUCH more than Cotto has made. You are wrong, sir.

And the Thomas & Mack is a very very small venue.. NOTHING compared to MGM Grand.
C'mon Charlie Murphy.. you can't be that slow?? Even in the Ricky Hatton and DLH fight people weren't there to support him, they where there hoping he got his ass kicked.

Yeah, we were raisning the point about THE FANS. Not about how much money PBF can make out of PPV sales.

Interesting points though about the mentality of boxing fans over there though.

                soooo, lemme get this straight:

                mayweather/ baldoomir: 10K of 12K capacity... it's a failure.

                cotto/margarito: 10k of 17K capacity...it's a success

                OK. i understand. thanks.

I can't stand Calzaghe and I wouldn't buy a fight just to see him lose. Thats a waste of $50 bucks...I must be the only poor guy in this site.

Well, that point is relevant because it induces the fighter's behaviour. If you know that the gate pays you, you will tell people to buy tickets and you'll take the microphone and you'll try to create that "in-arena" environment. You do more locally

If you know that PPV sales pays you, then you become more of a TV salkesman. Which is why you see fighters go to onto FNF or ESPN with Brian Kenny. Or in PBF's case, you do 24/7. You try to appeal to a national TV audience.

                    See what i mean?

Hmmm, well u know what the answer is have the fights over here at ****** o'Clock so it suits u lots tv schedule and we'd pack out the live areana seats.

Surely having the fight else where wouldnt effect the PPV sales. Or would it?
