All a victory over Margarito represents is another win over a Top Welterweight for Cotto.

It eliminates a hype job in Margarito and solidifies Cotto as the Main Man next to Floyd in the 147 division.

Floyd of course isn't bound to any sanctioning bodies or mandatory fights BUT at 147, this would be his mandatory fight if he plan to stay active after the Delahoya rematch.

As far as the Hatton rematch, I doubt it will happen since I think Malignaggie will box his head of to a UD. Nowhere to go but Cotto or retirement.

Good put. My thing is, I don't consider beating Margarito a huge accomplishment.....that's what I expect of Cotto if he is the real deal.

Margarito to me is overrated and I want him out of the picture. Cotto obvioulsy isn't the stronger of the two so all he has to do is show some versatility in his fight game and use his skills and either decision this Clown or break him down just enought to go for a TKO.


If he can't do that THEN Floyd doesn't need to fight him and can go on and do whatever he wants to for the almighty American Dollar.

See you are using "status" as a cop out. one) Margarito hasn't lost his status because of the Williams loss.. especially since it was a very close decision.
two) The Margarito that fought Williams is the same skill wise as the one who is fighting Cotto.

Who did Mayweather beat to become P4P 1? Exactly.

He didn't beat anybody specific to become # 1. Just that he has been a consistant Top 10 P4P fighter for the majority of his career.

He defeated Corrales who was a Top 10 P4P fighter and moved up in the list. His status only got stronger as he kept moving up in weight. There were two guys he couldn't have surpassed no matter who he beat......Hopkins and Jones.

Those two haven't lost in over 10 years but when they did he took over as THE NEXT BEST GUY. Winning a title at 154 and beating a unbeaten Top 10 P4P fighter in Hatton only confirms that he is the best P4P fighter in the world.
