Pavlik is the only good opponent for Calzaghe

Fortunately for Calzaghe fans though, they can't point to someone else and say "That was a better opponent!"
Literally, the light heavyweight champion has the options of:
1. The Middleweight champion who is almost like a smaller, more predictable, version of Mikkel Kessler who Calzaghe beat quite handily.
2. The shot, former light heavyweight and P4P king, who fights in a completely different style now, that is MADE for Joe Calzaghe's attack. I'm a big Winky Wright fan, and I think Calzaghe would eat his ass alive with his unpredictable attack. Roy isn't even particularly good at trying to fight like Wright.
Calzaghe just buried the last good contender he had by beating Hopkins. At the conclusion of Dawson-Tarver, we will have someone else to talk about being a credible threat to Calzaghe, but right now, there is just no one.
Another one who compares Pavlik to Kessler as being similar. Man do you even watch boxing? No offense but that **** has been floating around here by a few of you. It is like you all quote each other. The only thing Kessler and pavlik have in common is that they are white with tats.Comment

i totally agree! Calz would box circles, squares, and rectangles around the Ghost! but if Joe gets dropped at any point like he did against Hopkins, you can bet Pavlik wont let him off the hook that easy!Comment
Exactly. Pavlik approached Taylor differently. He knew he it was going to be a jabbing/right hand contest. When he did get taylor on the ropes, he unleashed his arsenal.
He approached Miranda totally different. People refuse to give him credit as he can look sloppy and they refuse to see what he does in the ring. He is a smart guy and knows how to approach a fight.Comment
No, I'm probably actually being 100% literal when I say that Pavlik never throws anything other than jabs and crosses. That's exactly what I meant. 100%. I don't even think Pavlik knows what a hook is!
Look douche, Pavlik seriously throws jabs and crosses all fight, very rarely mixing in something else. Pavlik-Taylor II was all jabs and crosses from Pavlik.
I'm not critical of it... one-dimensional doesn't hurt you until someone can expose you for not having a backup plan. Your god Calzaghe is the guy to do that.
Really? Two technically sound boxer-punchers who rely on their jab to get them through their fights for the most part, and both rely on their cross for their power shot. Oh yeah, and you did mention that they are white.Another one who compares Pavlik to Kessler as being similar. Man do you even watch boxing? Do YOU watch boxing? What exactly does one or the other do that sets himself apart so much from the other?Comment
How did Hopkins spoil Calzaghe's myth? If ever Calzaghe was going to win, it was going to be in the exact manner he did win. In a ****ty, scrappy, clinch-filled cautious fight that made Hopkins look better losing than it did Calzaghe in winning. That was always going to be the case. If you saw it happening any other way then you were either overrating or underrating one or another of the guys.Joe needs to fight Kelly at a catchweight of 166lbs. Calzaghe normally fights at 168 anyway, so dropping 2 pounds ain't ****, it's Kelly who'd have to gain 6 to make it happen. I have a feeling Kelly would slaughter Joe, Hopkins destroyed the myth surrounding Joe's abilities. And Kelly is a straight up come-forward kind of guy with a workrate that matches Joe's. It would be a great fight and a good win for Kelly.
Better than Abraham anyway.
Anyway, Pavlik would not be the best fight for Calzaghe at this point in time. Pavlik has beaten Taylor and that's about it. Well, and Miranda. Why does this throw him into the mix? If he loses, everyone and their dog would just say he should have fought one of the other guys as Pavlik was too inexperienced. The only fight is Jones Jr. A massive name and the greatest fighter of his era.Comment
Well first off. Kessler is a stand up boxer. That is his strategy and he will do it for the whole fight. Pavlik uses the jab and right hand to open guys up, so he can get inside and rip the living hell out of them. Pavlik has a killer mentality. kessler has a cautious one.No, I'm probably actually being 100% literal when I say that Pavlik never throws anything other than jabs and crosses. he's just ignoring pavlik's arsenal, saying all he does is 1-2 is straight up ignorant and he should feel ashamed for saying such an absurdityWell first off. Kessler is a stand up boxer. Pavlik had to fight Taylor a certain way to negate his speed. To throw hooks and uppercuts at a distance would have left him wide open to Taylor.
For a guy who does not know how to throw them, he certainly does a good job of knocking guys unconscious with them!lOLComment
