as much as i like pavlik, i think he's too green to fight calzaghe right now, i think that 3 more world class level fights and pavlik will have just enough to handle joes experience and be able to make it a tough and competitive fight..........calzaghe has a **** ton of momentum right now, i think that he would outpoint pavlik and would smother him with flurries, pavlik would need to learn how to thwart that kind of attack like hopkins did.......

Kessler is a classic boxer who has never beaten a live opponent in his life. All he has fought is the 168 euro fringe guys. He has never beaten a grade b fighter let alone a grade A fighter.

Pavlik is a Puncher/Brawler with some boxing skills, but wants to pound the piss out of his opponents.

Not even close to being the same.

But both, basically straightforward offensive fighters with big right hands right, except that Kessler has more boxing skill?

        Hmmm.

I agree. Kelly pavlik is the only meaningful fight that calzaghe could make right now. everyone else is over the hill (roy jones) or out of calzaghes natural weightclass. Calzaghe just doesn't belong in the light heavys. He didn't sit down on his punches against Bhop, what makes anyone think he will against tarver or dawson?

Fights that are out there for Joe are.
Dawson, Tarver, Jones at Light Heavy

Pavlik, Miranda, and Green at super middle

I would personally like to see Pavlik vs Calzaghe over any of the fights, my second pick would be Miranda. To me a win over Tarver or Jones does very little for Joe and he will be punished by the mainstream and media for fighting and beating guys at the end of their career. He already beat Hopkins now its time to move on to bigger better things, and after Dawsons performance against Glenn Johnson, I dont think that fight makes too much sense for Joe, though it does make more sense than a fight with Tarver or Jones.

Kessler is not a straight forward guy. He only goes forward when forced to. He is as cautious as a church mouse.

                They are nothing alike.

When Kessler actually beats a real live fighter, maybe then we can talk.

As much as i like Pavlik, stylistically, this would be the worst fight for him. He would just get countered all night long and probably drop a UD or get stopped.

RJJ has a great shot at beating Joe Calzaghe in a close fight, but Pavlik? Not a chance.

True its only 3 years between them but Roy has a lot more mileage taken out of him by being stopped twice and by traversing weight classes drastically , Roy is just worn down way more than Cal is and is a shadow of his former self , I dont like seeing Roy as a win on a resume these days as its a false notch to have but that dont seem to bother JC , a name is a name right !
