Pavlik is the only good opponent for Calzaghe

It would be a good strategy, especially since Calzaghe has a workrate that is infinately better than Hopkins's workrate... but it is going to be DAMN hard to get a better lead right than Hopkins.

i'm a big calzaghe fan, he's my favorite but i think he's slowing down a bit and his hands are quite fragile.

A video of KOs doesn't really refute my argument that he doesn't take those punches out of his holster until he has his opponent hurt. The reason being is that those punches in his arsenal aren't very short and compact, so the only time he can really safely use them effectively (meaning he loads up on them) is when his opponent is hurt or intimidated... so he doesn't have to worry about heavy fire coming back.

Listen, that Hernandez kid in the first part of the video literally did not land a punch in that fight. Anyone can look good with any punch against sub-standard competition.

the 2nd fight he played it safe (klitschko style)
you'll see pavlik against that british kid he's fighting next, you'll see a rich arsenal coming from kelly

There a lot of people who said that Kessler had the best jab in boxing and Calzaghe took that away... I can't imagine why that wouldn't happen against Pavlik.

It is easy to tee off with everything you have when you are against limited competition.

I can't imagine that this Lockett kid is going to push Kelly to the limit, at all.

Just remember, against elites, a one-dimensional fighter would whittle their attack down to just their bread and butter.

Pavlik is aggressive when he needs to be, and not aggressive when he needs to be. He is sloppy looking at times, but is efficient and adaptable. Kessler is over rated. I am still waiting for someone to give me one name that Kessler has beaten that is a Grade A or even Grade B fighter. Kessler has looked good against fringe guys, but was untested. Pavlik has been tested and has always found a way to win.

Kessler beat Beyer, which is a pretty good win. The problem with 168 is that it is full of Euros, and it is hard for Americans to say how good they are, since they never fight anyone we know. Mundine is a pretty damn good win too.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it is a good sign that Pavlik is one-dimensional considering how close the Taylor rematch was when Pavlik was outworking him so hard. He really didn't have many answers for what Taylor had to bring to the table other than ridiculous amounts of activity.

IF they were to fight. Tonight, we didnt see vintage Joe because of Hop's mastery of taking away his opponent's best attributes. Hop made Joe respect him for half of the fight after that first KD and suffocated Joe's wild boxing anytime he got close. I dont think Joe will experience this with any other fighter out there because no one is ass physically smothering as Hop.

Now, Pavlik is a straight up stand up fighter like Kessler but he isnt nearly as versatile as him. He MAY have more power (i dont think he does), but you can know what to expect and what to avoid with Kelly, jab jab straight right. While I dont think Joe would HURT Pavlik, I think he'd be able to fight more of his game against Pavlik. I wouldnt see no more than 3 rounds given to Pavlik in this fight.

Good point, although Calzaghe's workrate didn't show up until the adjustment he made to stop the straight right from ****ing him in the chin repeatedly in the early rounds.

Pavlik-Taylor II was pretty much the same throughout.

By the way, I am prepared to go back on my one-dimensional statement on Pavlik a bit. After thinking about it for a while, I do realize that what he did against Miranda does show that he at least can fight decently on the inside, but for the most part, he still did come forward and throw 1-2's.

I'm glad 2501 agrees with me about the similarities between Pavlik and Kessler.

Seriously, Pavlik's power is not coming with him up to 175, and that would hurt him against Calzaghe.
