Hopkins running from Calzaghe again

He brought up some counterpoints, which were perfectly acceptable, and you try the old "That aint the issue, the issue is (bull****)..."
Get out of here with that ****, and explain your contradictory logic. How come Joe is forgiven for not fighting Jones?
Oh, and while we're at it- didn't you continually call Bernard old and on the slide, yourself? So... it's okay to avoid a better offer from one old guy.. to get a worse offer from another old guy? WTF?!?
Wiley
What Hopkins is doing is not strong business. He's on the slide. His last few PPV fights were dogs. He's an old man. And, most importantly he's pulled this **** with Calzaghe before. It's a trend. He doesn't want Calzaghe. It's obvious.BOTH QUOTES FROM YOU. And they're obviously contradictory.Wiley
Jones was beaten down and washed up in 2006.Comment

after winky i don't think his ppv will be that great. if he was not to fight a big name then he won't get any ppv sales. he is not exciting. i cant say that the amrican public wanan see joe, but he is apparently making a anme over there. You serious, calzaghe aint worth 50/50 against hopkins, hopkins is proven PPV and calzaghe is free to air, bernard would give joe by far his biggest payday, and is the bigger name in boxing. 60/40 b-hop is a fair split.
I dont wanna hear from anyone about 50,000 calzaghe fans buying tickets this weekend, thats small time cash compared to even a mediorce 200,000 pay per view sales in my estimation.
if you really look at hopkis resume, he has some big names, but they are small guys. i mean winky is small, oscar is small. taylor beat him and they are about the same size. tarver lost which is a good fight for hopkins i admit that one. who else is on his resume? maybe howard eastman but no one super famous or even equivalent to hopkins in size. the man has literally fought once a year (althoguh he is kidna old).
he is bigger than joe, but not worthy of 60/40. especially since he has called joe out and joe has offered for him to choose where, when and well he basically stick a cucumber up his ass aslong as joe gets paid.
ps. 200k ppv roughly 50 dollars is about 1,000,000. so 1 million dollars
50k fans with tickets starting from around about 60 pounds (120 dollars)
is 6,000,000 dollars. the pricier tickets were 200 ish pounds upwards so 400 dollars which i didnt calculate.
so 50k fans is a lot of money. that is why frank is always pushing for gates because it makes the money.Last edited by Unseen; 11-11-2007, 03:22 PM.Comment

You're just not wanting to address the issue. I don't give a **** about Jones in 2006. If you think Calzaghe should have fought washed up Jones rather than Kessler, then you're just a moron. The issue is Hopkins not wanting to get into the ring with Calzaghe. I think Calzaghe is the draw, not Hopkins. Hopkins is overplaying his hand, again, probably because he knows there's a good chance he'll get beaten by Calzaghe and his career will be effectively over. Hopkins wants an easier fight for big money. That's it. Now you can spin it, and do whatever, I really don't give damn what you think. Got it, you little twit??He brought up some counterpoints, which were perfectly acceptable, and you try the old "That aint the issue, the issue is (bull****)..."

LIKE I SAID: Great fighters have constantly dirven hard bargains before a fight was made. You think Delahoya was scared to fight Floyd when he demanded a bigger cut? Was Ray Leonard scared to fight Hagler when he demanded all the ring particulars??? It's in the HISTORY of the sport, dude. Hopkins just wants the credit he deserves for being a bigger draw (you can't deny that) and generating more buys. That's not even debatable.
Oh, and we can pretend like you didn't say it's okay for Joe to fight one 'old man' over another-- but that post aint getting deleted.Comment

What the hell are you talking about? You're the guy that just insinuated that Calzaghe should have fought washed up Roy Jones, Jr. instead of the double belt holder, Kessler! LOL What a moron.God, you're such a damn idiot it's infurating.

What you fail to see is that Hopkins is not the bigger draw here. Calzaghe is.Comment

Yep this is CALLED DUCKING....... B-Hop should be ashamed of himself..In a recent interview fully posted on Boxing Scene, Bernard Hopkins has laid down the gauntlet for a possible fight with Joe Calzaghe:
"...
Hopkins said that he's only willing to do the fight with Calzaghe if it's on America soil, and if the money is a 60-40 split in his favor. He refuses to do a 50-50 split."
-----------------------
NOW, this is reminisent of how Hopkins has handled past inquiries by Calzaghe's camp for a fight, by making deal breaking demands.
This should make it clear that Hopkins isn't exactly jumping up and down to get in the ring with Calzaghe, even at this point in his career. IMO he's lucky Calzaghe even gave him another chance for one last big payday before shuffling off to the retirement home.
I think it would be funny as hell, if Calzaghe accepted this insulting offer and beat Hopkins' ass.Comment

hopkins aint that famous to non boxing fans. i mean in the uk i would struggle to get even 2 people out of 100 if i was to ask a sports fan. its the truth but sad to say.Comment

Ask yourself the simple question, of how many people across the Atlantic would but a PPV match up involving Calzaghe? I would guess atleast the 200,000 that you speak of, oh yeah and were talking about a man form Wales. Don't act like he does not have selling power, that's an insult. Either Bernard wants the fight or he does not. I understand the 60/40 split is a negotiating tactic and I assume that will drop after negotiations. But if Bernard is truly thinking of sticking to this demand, I guarantee you the fight will not happen, and the blame should be shifted solely to Bernard, period.Comment

Don't twist my words, kid. I said that YOU called Jones washed up (it's quoted), and that was why Joe didn't accept a 60/40 offer IN HIS FAVOR.What the hell are you talking about? You're the guy that just insinuated that Calzaghe should have fought washed up Roy Jones, Jr. instead of the double belt holder, Kessler! LOL What a moron.

Yet it's acceptable to fight an old man (your words again) in Hopkins?
I see some holes here...Comment
