Hopkins running from Calzaghe again

What Hopkins is doing is not strong business. He's on the slide. His last few PPV fights were dogs. He's an old man. And, most importantly he's pulled this **** with Calzaghe before. It's a trend. He doesn't want Calzaghe. It's obvious.
I say let that old man wither away on the vine. Calzaghe's stock is up and on the rise. He can do whatever the hell he wants. ****, even washed up old Roy Jones Jr. wants to fight Calzaghe and said in 2006 he'd go to Wales to get him. Cal doesn't need Hopkins. Hopkins needs Calzaghe.Comment

Okay. He's old. He's on the slide. But still-- he's the draw. What Hopkins is doing is not strong business. He's on the slide. His last few PPV fights were dogs. He's an old man. And, most importantly he's pulled this **** with Calzaghe before. It's a trend. He doesn't want Calzaghe. It's obvious.

Like I said in this thread (you must have missed it), it's not about skills.Comment

Calzaghe is the undefeated & undisputed SMW champion, he has to fight in Hopkins division, he has to fight in Hopkins country, and he has to fight in Hopkins venue.
Surely that warrants at least 50% of the purse.
Hopkins needs Calzaghe more than Calzaghe needs Hopkins.Comment

Now your just contradicting yourself. Hopkins calls out Joe and dictates terms, hopkins is the bigger name, he fights better fighters, he makes more money, yet you imply hopkins is ducking for asking for the majority of the cash. What Hopkins is doing is not strong business. But When Jones offered to come to wales to fight calzaghe, with jones being, the bigger name, taking a 40% cut and coming over to calzaghe's backyard, and calzaghe says NO (after claiming for years jones didnt wanna fight him)
Thats not calzaghe ducking, thats just calzaghe taking less money to fight a lesser name cos calzaghe doesnt need a big name on his record after spending years against solid/average fighters?
Makes no sense.Comment

Hopkins priced himself out against Jones, he's askig for what he deserves against Calzaghe, BIG difference.
It will be Hopkins belt on the line
Hopkins is the PPV star (even though he doesn't sell that well all of his fights are PPV, and Joe is on standard HBO)
Hopkins has the more recognized name and the better record as well
Joe's biggest wins are against Lacy and Kessler, two people the general boxing audience has no idea who they are. I would say Howard Eastman was equal to Joe's win over Lacy.
Hopkins deserves what he's asking for, this Joe love has got to stop people. It's effecting your judgment.Comment

Totally agreed, the whole calzaghe thing is way over the top, one win over kessler and he is the best fighter in the world (despite staggering around like a drunk monkey in round 4) and a bigger draw in the US than Bernard Hopkins.
