Mayweather moves up in weight and fights a prime, elite champion at a new weight class. He struggles in that fight, gets a disputed decision. Floyd said that he would rematch the guy immediately to prove who the better man is.

Maybe I'm being more sympathetic because I stated before the fight that Hopkins would get the win and make it the ugliest win in history if that's what it took.. I don't think he achieved that distinction - but it wasn't pretty.

I do think it's brilliant defense. Winky connected on every other one of his opponents with such ease; the majority couldn't see Bernard doing anything to stop it from happening to him. And he did. He did something.

People would **** on Willie Pep nowadays if he was fighting. Pep would tie opponents up and "hug" and then he would do a little "running."

This is Boxing. Bernard neutralized completely; Antonio Tarver and Winky Wright. The Taylor losses were good for him. They took him to a level higher than he already was. He's a grandmaster now.

Fighters know that. Fighters see that.

His defense is invisible. It can't be seen - but it is as solid as a wall, and transparent as a pane of glass.

Try to hit Bernard Hopkins. He's not going to just move his head..

He's going to do about 6 things while you're trying to hit him.
That one statement I would agree with 100% percent. People would bash Willie until the cows came home in this day and age. Do we not realize that both these men are defensive masters, hitting them is improbable and hitting them cleanly is close to impossible.

been reading through all the pages.

here's what I don't get Wiley .. you constantly say Floyd has a padded record and that Hatton has the better resume because based on the... "best competition that each fighter has faced thus far"

so in retort to that Mayweather fans have brought up Castillo 2x, Zab Judah, Corley, De La Hoya, Hernandez .. thats a solid 5 names right there

but all you can bring up for Hatton's best opposition is a 35 year old Kostya ... and a 32 year old Castillo

so just on that basis .. how the hell in 43 fights does Hatton have the better resume when the 2 best opponents he fought were not even close to PRIME?

and yes factoring age into it does count, because in 2002 Jose Luis Castillo was the man to beat at 135 when Floyd fought him ... can you really say the same about JLC five years later at 140 pounds?

So, Winky Wright isn't fundamentally sound because he uses a clamshell? The Philly Shell Defense isn't a classical technique? James Toney hasn't used it for years? Thanks for playing.

You have not seen enough boxing in your life, to intelligently discuss this.

                thanks

im just saying ... Joe Frazier and Leon Spinks both beat Muhammad Ali

but one of those victories is a hell of a lot more relevent.

                you get the reference.

Well, Hatton had just gone 12 rounds with an absolute KILLER named Luis Collazo.

Understand somthing, Mayweather is the one who talks about fighting the best, and dominating the best... Beating the best, it's all he talks about. Anyone, anytime, anywhere, I've heard him say that more then once. His last 5 fights are Gatti, Baldomir, Mitchell, Judah, and before that, was Bruseles.

Now, explain to me which one of those guys in the last 5 or 6 years was on top for any amount of time. And please, save me the Baldomir 1 fight wonder with Judah.
