Beat the best the division has to offer. Beat a pound for pound fighter.

I think only reason i could think of right now is that he haven't faced any elite & HOF type of fighters in his career. Lets compair him with DLH, before DLH turned 27 years old, he faced 5~6 elite fighters; Cotto none. But I think this will change in a year or two...

I love watching Cotto fight, and I never miss an opportunity to watch him get in the ring. However I still think its a little early for the P4P status. After the next couple of fights it should be time to put his name on the list but not just yet. I honestly believe that he'll be bigger than Tito.

I don't know if I would put Cotto in a top 10 list, but I'd put him in the top 15.

Let me try and rattle 15 off the cuff...

          Mayweather
          Pacquiao
          Wright
          Marquez
          Barrera
          Calzaghe
          Taylor
          Hatton
          Arce
          Castillo
          Casamayor
          Cotto
          Simms
          Vazquez
          JM Marquez

I left off the likes of Hops and DLH because those guys should be retiring soon.

Cotto is not on the top 10 list until he beat a margue fighter, that will be soon.

I suppose it's the lack of wins over stars that impresses people who make those lists. I like Hatton, and I do think he should be on or near a top ten list....but outside of his 1 career defining win over Tszyu he's by no means beaten better opposition than Cotto. Over the past three years, Cotto has walked through one tough opponent after another.

The ridiculous thing is....even if Cotto beats Margarito I'm sure he's still not going to be universally recognized as top ten material. I don't know why.
Relax it's still too early. Yes he's had pretty good wins over some tough opponents but these are not the big names yet. Not yet. Margarito is not a
p4p fighter too. But a couple of two more big fights and I guess he cannot be denied.

Early? How in the hell is it "Early".

Cotto has been a professional for 6 years and a Champion for 3. And he's fought plenty of solid names....just no superstars.

That doesn't stop people from placing Calzaghe in their top ten.

If Cotto beats Margarito in impressive fashion he'd jump into my top 10. Margarito is no pushover...even if he looked bad last fight. Margarito is still a top 20 p4p guy in my book.

OF course!!! ..because He has ALL THOSE KO LOSSES on his record to back up your UNILATERAL declaration.. You prolly think Wlad has a bad chin as well.. I mean its NOT like someone is constantly trying to take your ****ING head off in a boxing match..
Jesus.. Ali was down.. So was Tyson.. So was Lamon Brewtser
So was Floyd Mayweather.. I guess all their chins are made of glass too..???

I think Cotto's problems with being rocked were more a reflection of his draining weight than his actual ability to take a shot on the chin. I know that some fighters drain and have no real problems...so I may be off.

I mean heyzeus christ though....the man has some SERIOUS recuperative ability. He took some monster shots from Ricardo Torres and just stayed up and let Torres tee off on him. Some of those combinations he took would put other guys to sleep (especially that three punch combo that ended with the uppercut).
