How Come Miguel Cotto Is Never On A "P4P" List?

He's beaten probably as good of opposition as anyone.

I suppose it's the lack of wins over stars that impresses people who make those lists. I like Hatton, and I do think he should be on or near a top ten list....but outside of his 1 career defining win over Tszyu he's by no means beaten better opposition than Cotto. Over the past three years, Cotto has walked through one tough opponent after another.

The ridiculous thing is....even if Cotto beats Margarito I'm sure he's still not going to be universally recognized as top ten material. I don't know why.

I don't care what anyone says. The winner of Margarito/Cotto is top ten P4P.

All good points... like you say, the win over Zoo is the "cheat" (in a figurative sense) to get into the top ten. That's the only real difference. I suppose it IS possible to argue that Cotto is still relatively "untested" against top flight opposition, but it's not necessarily something I'd argue myself. I'd certainly have him top twenty.

If he beats Margarrrrrrito,Id be perfectly legit to have him on a p4p list.

He's right, here's the current list (note that the Paler has dropped beneath The Blow, and Pongsmelly Pingpongjam has left the list altogether, prob. quite rightly as there was no way of proving it):

                  1 FLOYD MAYWEATHER Welterweight
                  2 MANNY PACQUIAO Jr. Lightweight
                  3 WINKY WRIGHT Middleweight
                  4 JERMAIN TAYLOR Middleweight
                  5 BERNARD HOPKINS Lt. Heavyweight
6 MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA Jr. Lightweight
                  7 RAFAEL MARQUEZ Bantamweight
                  8 JOE CALZAGHE Super Middleweight
                  9 RICKY HATTON Jr. Welterweight
                  10 MIGUEL COTTO

The thing with P4P is that a lot of it is so transient, it can only be guessed at. Kind of like how I always said (sorry, but I did) that the Hopkins post-Joppy was getting old and didn't really warrant the top spot anymore. Then when he meets someone who can press him, he loses it. (Perhaps unfairly).

The Amigo's another. I've got a lot of time for Marco, but I suspect that he's aged considerably and that if pressed he wouldn't really be able to hold his ground with many of the other P4P listees. He's an Amigo with a lot of miles on the clock.

I'd have Cotto just outside purely because of his lack of a big scalp. Quintana probably wasn't that good (remains to be seen), but apart from Branco his othe recent wins have been over good opposition who generally came to win. I think a win over Margarito should bump him into the top 10.
