I remember I talked to somebody on this board about Duva training Meldrick Taylor, and the person responded with George Benton was said to be the brains behind the whole thing...which is true, even Duva talked about Benton in the Ringside Holyfield...Benton was known to be a boring fighter, which is a bit ironic because he is from Philly, but I guess this is what people forget about Philly fighters, they are also technically sound fighters.

Agree...people keep wanting to nag on the first fight with Castillo, but according to Floyd and his team, he was going into the fight injured...he didn't cancel the fight because it was to close to the fight, plus Floyd is stubborn. It's not like you can't tell the difference between how he is fighting in the first fight and the second fight.who ****in cares, he rematched him and won convincingly thus bringing a slight edge in credibility to his injury claims. nobody likes someone who talks a game of **** and backs it up, its just how it is in life. nobody likes dynasties, nobody likes it when the same people keep beating the **** out of someone and gloat about it, then do it again and again.
you talk about giving castillo a little bit more respect, why the hell should he? so we can all sit there and talk about how great of a guy he is? none of that **** has any bearing on his performence in the ring. in the ring he took care of buisness, twice, and thats all i myself honestly care about. im not concerned with any externals that mean absolutely nothing in the grand sceheme of what makes a fighter great.
Just because Floyd comes off as arrogant, doesn't mean he isn't a great fighter. It may turn people off, but so what, that didn't bother the historians and fans from saying Ty Cobb was great. ****, just look at Barry Bonds, even before the whole steroid scandal, the guy still came off to the media as a piece of sit, but could anybody deny his talent, NO.
Ray Robinson was no angel either.Comment

So some of you people are trying to tell me that if Floyd was modest you would give him all the props in the world? What does modesty have to do with how you win a fight. Just face it, you haters are just jealous of Floyd Mayweather's gifts and success and can't stand the fact that he rubs that in your face at all times. Mayweather haters have deep personal issues they need to cope with...Last edited by Guest; 11-29-2006, 01:44 PM.Comment

Calm down floyd nuthuggers, he'll have his dieing day filled with respects too, no need to bash on another fighter after his dieing day and bring hate on the day of his passing. Respect, now act like a man, and respect.Comment

Good looks on the shoutout, that quote is from a 1950 Time Magazine Article following his knockout loss to Sandy Saddler.
I think that people see the primary difference in that Mayweather comes across as a totally unlikeable guy sometimes. They don't like to see a villain who villifies his opponents win, in school yard terminology, "cheap". Also, every great fighter needs to have proven his valor at one time, an instance when they are forced to the edge and they decide to hell with it, I need to fight. And Floyd Mayweather has thusfar averted such a circumstance.
I dunno, it's just something in me, I grew up a blue collar kid who was always taught to give everybody props and to treat everyone with respect. The man I am has quarrels with people who behave like he does most of the time. But he can do whatever he wants, it's not my business.Comment

No one is bashing Pep at all. We are just wondering how people can give Pep props, but **** on Floyd when they are both defensive fighters looking to get paid...Comment

Have you ever stopped to consider what made Ali so great, you can make a case for him not being the finest fighter ever... but consider for a minute why he is considered not only the greatest by boxing fans but by many sportsfans round the world.who ****in cares, he rematched him and won convincingly thus bringing a slight edge in credibility to his injury claims. nobody likes someone who talks a game of **** and backs it up, its just how it is in life. nobody likes dynasties, nobody likes it when the same people keep beating the **** out of someone and gloat about it, then do it again and again.

Then consider Floyd and there is your answer.Comment
