Generally speaking, of course, but I'd say that Whitaker was quite a bit more "hated" than is Mayweather nowadays. I'd also say that Whitaker was much more deserving of the "hate" he recieved (and still does to an extent), as he brought a bunch of that onto himself with all that ridiculous clowning, mocking, and taunting he did in the ring as a way of trying to embarrass his opponents, as well as his disrespecting of a few opponents after he had fought them and a personality that just rubbed people the wrong way.
