Yea the Free Masons have been much unfairly maligned.
As I said in the above post they suffer from that problem of having 'secret' associated with their name. That opens the door for every conspiracy nut to run with all kinds of unsubstantiated accusations. It has been the organization's burden since the 1800s.
I have heard many times the difference between a secret organization and an organization with secrets. I well understand your point. I was just busting you a little.
Also I know that the Free Masonry has been very charitable throught its history.
In the case of Churchill I was bringing up the bogus connection between the Masons and the Ripper murders, a stink that has been unfairly placed on them ever since Harry Dam of the socialist rag The Star first placed it on them back in 1888. I tell will tell you about how that came about if you have an interest. Let me know.
There is one connection with the murders that opened the door for all the speculation. Sir Charles Warren, Metropolitan Police Commisioner (1886-1888), was a high ranking Mason (I believe there is even a lodge named after him in either South Africa or India, that operates to this day) and when he failed to solve the Ripper murders and was accused (unfairly) of destroying evidence he was forced to resign, thus the conspiracy nuts have been trying to lay the Ripper Murders (again unfairly) at the door step of the Masons ever since.
The probable truth about the Ripper is that he was a low life living in the Whitchapel ****** and is not a very interesting character. But bring in the Free Masons and boy now you got yourself a great Hollywood movie, e.g The Final Solution, Murder by Decree, and From Hell are all such unsubstantiated nonsense films.
And so the legend plays on and on. Most of the current youth generation can't separate the Illuminati from the Masons. Sad but such ignorance is amusing if your not affected by it.
